They were married in Denver, Colorado, in 1972 and have spent the last 43 years in Ogden Valley. They lived in Huntsville for 30 years where they raised their children: Sarah, Ryan and Brigit, and remodeled the old Mads Wangsgaard home that was built in 1876. The Babcocks have spent the last 13 years in Eden. Being lovers of the outdoors, the Valley has been a perfect place to live, and they’ve enjoyed their time here—even if the snow gets challenging at times! To celebrate their time together, Linda and John spent two weeks visiting art galleries, dining out, camping, swimming in Bear Lake, visiting family and friends, and just generally enjoying each other’s company as usual. Many thanks to all those who sent their best Linda and John Babcock wishes. Birthday We celebrated our dear sister Suzanne Ferre’s birthday August 1. She is a “yellow” person—joyful, friendly, optimistic, and outgoing so we used her signature color as our gift giving theme (she even has a yellow garage door). Everything, but the Maileg mouse she is holding, was yellow: dish towels, soap, bathmat, tablet, gift card, the list goes on. You have no idea how many things you can find in yellow—even crackers—until you really start looking. It’s amazing. However, she likes the mouse best, which isn’t yellow, but cost more than expensive perfume or designer chocolates. Arguably, she’s worth every penny. Suzie is also a Leo, which means she’s brave and bold and ready to roar for something she believes in. Although retired from her beloved job with the Ogden School District, where she served over the last four decades, Suzanne Ferre she remains actively involved in the Republican Party and in local politics. She’s a woman to look up to. We all love and admire her so much and wish her the happiest birthday ever! Rock on, Suzie, we’re cheering for you. Becky, Willow, and the whole Huntsville family. She loved her siblings, and they remained close all her life. She spoke often of her happy childhood. While in school at Ogden High, she met a cute boy by the name of Jack Shaum. After their first date, she told him that she was going to marry him, and he responded by jumping off the porch and didn’t come back for three months. But he couldn’t stay away; she was irresistible! She was the “wind beneath Jack’s wings”! Her hard work and dedication to the family allowed Jack to attend to his business and church callings. They made a marvelous team, always making family a priority in their lives. She was never happier than when she was in the kitchen baking something to give away. Her chocolate cake is legendary. She taught cooking lessons to many of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren on how to make it, but they could never duplicate it unless they put in the magic ingredient… LOVE. She embodied Christ-like selflessness. She degree at Kendrick Seminary College, and in 1950 he entered the Monastery in Huntsville. Father Pat distinguished himself as community sacristan, preparing for our community worship services, which were the better part of the monastic-day.
