Show Volume XXIX Issue VI The Ogden Valley News Page 13 July 1, 2022 AYSO Soccer Registration for Spring 2022/Fall 2023 Season Now Open Registration for the 2022/2023 soccer session is now open. The fall session usually starts the week school begins for the Weber Schools District. For 2022, the season runs from August 22 through late September or early October. The first “Soccer Saturday” for the younger players is August 27. Stay tuned for exact dates and times. The spring session generally starts right after Weber School District’s spring break. For 2023, the session will run April 8 through the end of the school year. Exact dates may vary by division and will come through your division coordinator or coach. Registration fees include fall season play, spring season play, and a uniform. Where Does My Money Go? AYSO is a nonprofit organization. There are no paid employees at the local level. However, please note there are a small number of employees at the national level who are paid out of the $20 national portion of your registration fee. In general, most of money collected for registration goes toward uniforms, equipment (pop-up goals, balls, nets, bags ...), thank-you gift cards (for coaches and refs), and fields (paint, reservation fees, etc.). Snowcrest Students Recognized at English Quest Writing Competition Snowcrest Junior High’s nineth-grade students were recently invited to compete in the 17th-annual English Quest Writing Competition sponsored by the Utah Council of Teachers of English. In a scaled-back 2022 version of English Quest, four categories (rather than nineteen) were available: Poetry, Short Story, Personal Narrative, and Argument Writing. Of our eight participants, two students took thirdplace medals. Piper Williams won for her poem “Hidden.” Penelope Miller won for her short story “How to Live.” We are so proud of our Skyhawk writers! We hope to see you again next year at English Quest 2023. Merit Pages News Weber State Students Earn Academic Excellence More than 3,700 students received the honor of Academic Excellence in the spring 2022 semester at Weber State University, signifying they maintained a GPA of at least 3.5. Of those 3,700 students, approximately 393 students earned the distinction of High Academic Excellence for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. They include the following Ogden Valley students: Braden Amann, Eden; Olivia Bailey, Huntsville; Collins Blakely, Eden; Jensen Clifford, Huntsville; Ashlynd Greenwood, Huntsville; Corinna Healey, Eden; Hilary Kendrick, Eden; Maddi Marker, Eden; Courtney Pollock, Eden; Baylee Richardson, Huntsville; Lisa Robertson, Eden; Betsy Seamons, Huntsville; and Jami Taylor, Huntsville. Weber State is an open-admission institution, serving more than 29,000 students from some of the most ethnically and economically diverse cities in Utah. The university cultivates remarkably personalized teaching, mentoring, and engaged learning with seven colleges, 225 undergraduate certificate and degree programs, and 17 graduate degrees, including a Doctor of Nursing Practice. Eden’s McKenna Best Named to College of the Holy Cross’ Spring 2022 Dean’s List McKenna Best of Eden was named to the College of the Holy Cross Spring 2022 Dean’s List. A member of the Class of 2023, Best was among more than 1,457 students named to the Dean’s List for outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 20212022 academic year. To qualify, students must pass four or more letter-graded courses with no failing grades during the semester and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
