officials ot of the eureka lily company believe that they will not have to go tar far below the 1000 2000 level to find a continuation ot of the ore which ie Is now being developed in the stan dard they are confident that this ore makes over info the eureka lily important change at property of clift company over at the clift mining corn con I 1 pany s property an old adage Is being proven wherein an unexpected and sudden development Is beneficial to both parties to a contract manager frank thornburg Tb recently let a con tract to extend the 1500 foot main tunnel the face was as then hard as flint and the contractors received a pretty good price as they figured on making very slow blow pr progress it was a sort of metamorphosed li limestone meston e which has turned as hard as marble mar ble but a few days ago the formation suddenly softened up they could make rapid progress and almost be fore they realized it they had broken into a large fissure apparently they started in a hard shell that protected the vein in when this was broken through the work was comparatively easy and they are making good money yet mr thornburg was de lighted to recompense afie men feel ing that they had done he and his associates a i mighty good turn this vein is stained up with iron and arid brown carbonates declared manager thornburg it la 13 about goo feet i vertically ertl erti cally from the surface the work had crosscut the vein sev en or eight feet when I 1 was there a few days ago and it looked decidedly good we may have to do some drifting either north or south in search of commercial ore shoots we have some ore about two carloads on the stock pile ready to ship it samples 18 per cent lead and twelve ounces silver herald republican dick makes report on lower mammoth mine the annual statement of the low er mammoth mining company a pro perty the control of which was re bently acquired by the knight inter ests has been prepared and submit ted to the officers and stockholders james C dick who held the con arol up to the time of the re bation early this month and who has for years been the general manager of the mine submits the report which in part follows the major portion of our work has been on the 1000 and 1500 foot levels the ore we were ere deve developing I 1 op 1 ng in our iso no 2 raise on the 1000 foot level a year ago got rather lean and we started no 3 raise near the face I 1 of the drift about feet south of no 2 this is up sixty feet with a drift north thirty feet and a drift south about forty five feet all thia this work is in the fissure having a width of from three to four our feet between walls with the commercial ore rang ing in thickness from twelve inches to three feet we have scoped about tons of ore from these workings with present indications that it will continue to the south and upward this is a copper sulphide ore aver aging about 2 per cent copper 15 ounces silver bliver and 2 gold on the 1500 1 foot level directly over the old slope that extend from the 1500 to the 1700 toot foot level we made an upraise and at fifty feet found a fairly large body of low grade silver lead ore it continued to the 1400 foot level we have sloped from this body of ore about 1000 tons and have about 1000 tons in sight the ore body shows fifteen feet wide between walls but some sorting is necessary to keep it up to a commercial grade we are driving the 1400 foot level south from this ore body to strike the porphyry con tact which we expect to reach within a short distance the zinc ore mined during the past year has been rather light in combar ison to the year preceding thia this la is due to the sudden crop arop in the price of spelter during the months of june and july our lessees who have been working that portion of the ter on a royalty could not make wages under a 10 cent market our zinc ore of a 30 per cent grade is found in small lenses within the very large zone of low grade zinc ore ai erasing about 12 per cent this large tonnage of zinc probably tons may some day be a val bable asset should the metallurgy of zinc advance to the step of treat ing 12 per cent zinc carbonate on a pi profit wit to make the mine pay for its de and to prospect some of our virgin territory has been the policy for the past year prospecting he the foot level by driving south ward iward about feet was the most costly on account of the condition in the upraise io no 2 from the 1000 foot level we ue believed this terri territory tor y would yield some ore and though the work done was rather discourage ing as to I 1 am of the opinion that the foot level should still be further prospected this was temporarily postponed lie be lieving the 1000 toot foot level would give us a better line a on the upper levels ground on one of the tie east and west break sand the present showing in the seems to bear out this theory as the material through which they are now driving is greatly sI similar nIlar to that found at corresponding depth in the neighboring mine 1 |
