"The fly is discouraging any extensive tourist use of Great Salt Lake. The problem has become so great that we cannot continue to promote the lake area another season e without initiating a eradication program, the report said. The council set up a $74,000 budget over the next two years to study the brine fly life cycle. "Several chemicals used so far have not been permanently successful. Some adult flies are destroyed, but we do not know enough about the insects to eradicate them in large relationships. Develop effective, practical and safe methods of con- trol. "We are also concerned with effect of any chemicals used in treatment of flies on the lakes shrimp and water-fow- l, the report continued. Assisting in the study are the following agencies: Utah Travel Council, Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, Utah Geological Survey, Utah Industrial Services Agency, Great Salt Lake Chemical Corp., and five counties bordering the lake, Salt Lake, Weber, Box Elder, Davis and quantities.
