Smith Anciently men communicated with each other by means of pictures. Now we usually use words to express thought, but we still think in pictures. If someone tells us his experience, we can understand it best when in our minds eye we can actually fee him doing it. John didnt just get the facts about the judgment, he actually saw it as it will someday take place. Then he transmitted these ideas to us in words, so that we could reconstruct the picture in our own minds. How well we develop this mental picturing power w ll largely determine our future. Sterling Corinthians Gordon B. Hinckley Sill W. Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners. 1 Israel today has a prophet, and wc give our witness to .the world that the channel of communication is open between God and his appointed servant. 15:33 Our ninth Article of Faith states: We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now' reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God. Romney A Successful Traveling Photo Exhibit MUNICH, A GERMANY tT cling photo exhibit, with a Madithe Mor- son Avenue approach, is telling mon story in the South German Mission area with a good deal of success. It is one of the largest Church displays erer assembled in Europe and tells the '"Three Dimensions of Life. We first got excited about making the display after visiting a traveling photoexhibit in Munich sponsored by the Russians, said Elder Alan B. McConkie, a missionary assistant to Mission Pres. Orville Gunther. The visitors enjoyed the large black and white pictures, which spoke facts for themselves, Elder McConkie said. Pres. Gunther said the Church has a storv to tell. The Germans do not understand the Mormons. We wanted to show' our person- ality, Pres. Gunther said. How to do it posed a problem for the mission. The missionaries assigned to the project contacted a member of the Church in who is closely, involved with this kind of work. Gar-mise- h, The Garmisch member told the missionaries that black and white photos were the only thing to use. He said color pictures were to be overruled immediately because of the cost and because the Germans shy away from color photo displays, Elder McConkie said. The brother also told us that to assure success we should at use paintings. To their mind, painted work is fictitious; murals or sign posters could be illustrations out of a mythology book. Black and white pictures not only appeal to the Germans critical sense of photography but also tell the truth. Our member in Garmisch said that its hard to lie with a photo, the missionary said. The man also told them that the exhibit must use the right psychology. It had to convey a concise message and have an intriguing title. Moreover it had to be presented subtly. The display doesnt try to fo.e Mormonism on the visitor. He already knows he is in a Mormon display, and the pictures show worthwhile activities and Christian concepts, he makes the association with Mormonism for himself. It is his decision. Pictures of archeological finds and the recently found papyri of the Peail of Great Pi ice also are shown. In this sane category are pictures of Joseph Smit translating the Book of Mormon. and other facets of Church history ending up with a photo of Salt Lake Valley. The third dimension relgion begins with photos of religion in b e Mormon family such as family prayer, importance of youth, chapels and explanations of Church organizations. Two pictures one a cemetery in the snow and the other an old couple walking in the distance ask the questions, Is a cold death waiting for me? and Where is life headed? The answers are given in the final sequences which tell the story of the Church. More than 700 photos were taken or provided for the exposition and of this number 80 were used. They are placed on stands and missionaries and Church members staff the exposition. In one city wre had over 800 Germans go through in a short time. They were all complimentary about the exposition and a good majority resulted in referrals, Elder McConkie said. |
