With the school year behind and piles of exams corrected and graded, teachers are free to dabble in unfinished projects, to take refresher courses for next year, to conduct sum- mer recreation programs or to enter the competitive job market. For Jan White, 21, East, who last year taught second grade at Nibley Park Elementary School, summer is a time for more teaching and classes at the University of Utah to improve her own 2020-184- 5 teaching techniques. Earl Stuker, 7072 S. 230 East, Midvale, who will be principal at Jordan Districts Lark Elementary School this fall, works at an entirely different job. He is a helicopter fire fighting crew foreman for the Fire Control Center, Wasatch National Forest. Larry J. Jeremy, 3084 Min-vAve., Granger, an eighth grade social studies teacher next fall at Kearns Junior High School, trys to make life more pleasant for Salt Lakers at his summer job. Two of his students, Duff Clawson and Jeff Redford, starred in the in KUED-T- V childrens show, Emperor of the Moon. It is important for children to be creative in school, Miss White said. This philosophy partially accounts for her decision to teachenroll in a three-weeers workshop in creative movement for children at the U. of U. She attends the class, directed by Virginia Tanner Bennett, after teaching children five to 11 for four hours weekdays at Rosslyn Heights Elementary School. k School children are often to do too much memorizing, and their time is too structured, she said. Instruction in dancing usually helps the slow child to be required more creative. Stuker, who has been a teacher and administrator in Utah and Calilfomia, attended a fire control school and safety course during June. Beginning July 1 he will direct a five-majet helicopter crew, fighting fires in the Salt Lake, Bountiful, Tooele, Kamas, Evanston and Mountain View, Wyo., ranger districts. n Teacher Larry K.
