No fish have been planted in the Uinta lakes so far this year, except the big roadside off-roa- resort waters such as Moon and Spirit Roads up to about 9.500 feet are dry and dusty. Beyond that the angler may find drifts over the road for another week, including the jeep road into Notch Mountain lakes, and others to Big Elk, and the upper Duchesne. It will likely be two weeks before the pack trains can find ample grass in the higher basins for their horses. Snow was melting rapidly Friday afternoon right up to ML Baldy. The runoff is fining the upper Provo River, but the stream is still clear enough for anglers to find fish. Some helpful equipment for the high lakes now would include hip boots or even waders, as most have flooded into the nearby meadows. Some exceptions are waters against cliffs, and a few like Lily and Lost against the read. Anglers like George use a spinning rod to cover much water, with a small spinner. The high country is evening up. Much earlier than usual. Was it. necessary? This is Ogden River below canyon mouth. Ogden Gets Road Done , But River In Poor Shape Whats happening on the Ogden River? There isnt much of it left below the mouth of Ogden Canyon. has Highway construction removed most foliage along the stream, and the bed has into a been canal-lik- e sluiceway. Farther downstream near Harrison Blvd. the entire stream area has been cleared away for what appears to be a garbage dump. It looks much like the upper Provo River where flood control measures ended the fishery on that stream. There are other changes in such places as Parleys Canyon, where the creek is to be placed in a pipe over 79 per cent of the distance from Dell to canyon Mountain mouth. The Utah Highway DepL has stated that piping Parleys is the only way to build the wider highway: that the esthetic approach to Salt Lake City will have to go. But at the mouth of Ogdon Canyon there seems no reason why both banks had to be as they were. Flood control is not a valid answer, as the stream is under complete control upstream at Pineview Reservoir. It appears to be a case of all foilage and removing the stream bed changing when it wasnt necessary. There may be reasons why the stream channel had to be completely gutted. But they are not apparent and sportsConservation mens clubs in the area have complained to the Ogden ofofe fice of the Utah fice. That office said they were investigating the matter. Earlier they were asked by Ogden area sportsmens clubs of to investigate the Weber River upstream from Morgan. The decision there was that the river had to go, to make way for the highway. Such a statement seems without validity in this case on die Ogden River.
