At the same time, the government is being sued for awarding defense contracts to three ether Southern textile mills which allegedly discriminate against blacks. Atty. Gen. John N. Mitchell filed suit in U.S. district court in Greensboro, N.C., Tuesday against .Cannon .Mills .Co., Kannapolis, N.C., one of the nation's largest textile firms. The .suit .alleged .Cannon discriminated against Negroes both in employment at its 16 plants in North and South Carolina and In the rental to employees .of .2,000 .singlefamily houses in the vicinity of its plants. Earlier the National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples legal defense fund filed suit in U.S. district court here challenging the legality of $9 million worth of contracts for firms that do not meet .federal .standards .in federal Thurmond, accused civil by rights organizations of exerting political pressures to get the contracts for the mills, issued .a .statement .saying Johnsons executive order was illegal .because .it .requires .contracts .warded Feb. 8 to Dan River Mills Inc., J.P. Stevens, Inc., and Burlington Industries. The NAACP suit charged the Defense Department and other .government .agencies violated President Lyndon B.
