Its regular series of new shows do nof include a single oater or a program. With several other television editors, we attended a luncheon with ABC executives in Hollywood last week and heard all about their new programs. The two included Elton Rule, president, and Leonard Goldberg, vice president in charge of programming. "In 25 pilots (sample programs) we have no shows about people who make (heir living with a gun. Further, we have no westerns, Mr. Goldberg said. "We have attempted to take advantage of the contemporary genre, Mr. Rule said, "which is saying that we are taking on a modern look. Both he and Mr. Goldberg then cited the Tom Jones Show as one example of the new programs. The network also has a show called Generation Gap, Whats It All About World? and Turn-on- , which will be introduced on the network in February. They will be seen on Ch. 4 in Salt Lake. The networks programming next season (they plan months ahead) will include movies and hour-lon- g series of shows. Robert Young will return to TV. Mr. Rule disclosed. He will portray a doctor, a general practioner, in the series, Marens WNby M.D. It will be his first big series since Father Knows Best. also has a one-howeekly series on which the "The Survivors, noted author, Harold Robbins, wrote especially for TV. Its called Hie New People. This tells about a group of Americans, including their children, who land on an island thats isolated from everyone else. "Most of the adults are killed, but a survivor says: Okay, you kids, you said you could make a better world of it. Heres yjur chance. Well, I believe this will be another winner, like Twilight Zone. Asked about the Dick Cavett Show, which has been the darling of many critics, Mr. Rule said: "The Cavett Show was dropped because it did not produce any large audience. When it was derided to drop it, there were few complaints. "As to what will happen to it in the fall, well have to see what tiie reaction to it is this May, when it resumes for summer. could develop between the executives and some For instance, those making Turn-O- n and What's It producers. alter Laugh-I-n AU About, World? two series modeled Insisted during interviews earlier in the week that they bad been given approval to do as they please. dash "Weve been assured, said one producer, "that there will be no censorship. During our luncheon, Mr. Rule was asked what the network had to say about this. He was definite and emphasized attitude each word: It is not true there will be a hands-of- f toward these shows. We are going to look over every script and show. "We must weigh each program. I am sure they will try to test us, but we are ready.
