McKay, of the Mormon Church. .She was Emma Ray Riggs when he, David 0. McKay, drove her in a surrey to be married in the Mormon Temple, 63 years ago. Recently I visited with President McKay in Salt Lake City and he was so anxious about the way modern young people, by their dress and deportment demean themselves. New Temple District Set President N. Eldon Tanner met with stake and mission presidents Saturday to organize the new Washington Temple District. The series of meetings was to end one-da- y with the apjtointment of a chairman of the district President Tanner returned to Salt Lake City Saturday night. Plans for the temple were announced in late November. It will serve members of the Church in the eastern United States and Canada and much of South America. The temple site comprises 57.4 acres nea ' Silver Spring, Md., and was purchased in 1962 by the Church at an investment of $850,000. There presently are 13 temples throughout four in Utah, two in California the world and one each in Idaho, Hawaii, Canada, Arizona, England, Switzerland and New Zealand. First Thai Missionary Annan Tudtoma Eldredge of Korat, Thal-- ' land, will leave the mission home this week to f return to his native land as a missionary. He is the first Thai member of the Church to hold the priesthood and tire first Thai missionary to be called. , Elder Eldredge, 23, was converted to the Church while living with the Lewis Eldredge family in Thailand. Annan was adopted by the 4 WEEK New S.L. Temple Schedule Eldredges after joining the Church. Mr. Eldredge represents the State Department in Thailand. Two GIs taught me the GospeL They taught me how to prey. I prayed for a long time, but my prayers were answered, he said. Annan asked for baptism on Christmas Eve 1967. Since then, he has been a student at the University of Nebraska. He helped in the translation of the Joseph which was the first Smiths Testimony, Church publication in the Thai language. He also translated Oh, My Father and several other Church hymns. A new schedule for the Salt Lake Temple has been drawn up by Pres. O. Leslie Stone. Part of the schedule in the Jan. 4, 1969 edition of the Church News therefore is in error. Jarvis, 756 W. 400 North, sent Gov. Agnew a congratulatory letter following his election as vice president of the United States and enclosed a Book of Mormon. Please be assured that I am appreciative of the time and interest you have taken to share your views with me, Mr. Agnew wrote. Referrals Number 883 Bear Lake, Idaho. Stake missionaries have provided a list of 883 referrals for the Church Missionary Department after a summer of group meetings with campers and tourists in the Bear Lake recreation area. Stake Mission President Ralph Sleight reported high rates of attendance and intense interest in the group meetings which included showing the film Mans Search For Happiness. stamped, envelope to President Sleight was included with each referral so the results of the meetings could be determined on an individual basis.
