Show regarding trustees for our consolidated school district some people think some talk a few do things anil and th for them elves h I 1 othera others try to tell and exola n their side of the question through the press to the c editor of the reporter in your last issue there appeared a statement from one of our c t zeis in wh ch he tried to explain h s good ties during h a public career from village coune iman to representative to the legislature postmaster school trustee and so forth now as to that the wr ter of th s article has no objections but when that md ind vidual tries to show the pub lie ic that in the selection of school trus ees he has not received fair treatment from the county comm s I 1 feel it my autv to explain my poa pos tian tion in so far as that pirt part of h a epistle goes at the last meeting of the legisla ture as you are all aware a new school law was passed creating school districts in proportion to the school population of the various counties of the state juab county was divided into two school districts the east cast end or juab school D strict and the west end or tintic gintic school district each district to be divided into five vot ing precincts accord norto the lation in eureka there will be 3 precincts in mammo h 1 precinct in silver city 1 I precinct this work be ing forced upon the county commis by this new law we created 3 school precincts in lureka as you saw pub shed in the reporter a few weeks ago making a fair apportion ment as to population and boundary the law reads that one trustee must be appointed from each prec pree net not by the county commissioners to serve until december 1918 1916 when an elec tion shall be called and five trustees elected one from each precinct to serve for long or short terms as the law prescribes juab bounly a affairs are placed in the hands of three commissioners to handle and carry on business trans actions and I 1 bel eve that aaen mem her is guided by his 0 judgement jud gement and fully capable of think ns for h aselt without fear or favor they serve the taxpayers and citizens of juab county giving equal rights to all and special privileges to none they attend to county busness bus ness at regular and special meetings as oc casion demands and when at home devote their time to their own at af fairs they gre are not to be found at the street corners or g n shops d a cuss ng other people peoples a affairs receive ing advice from a petticoat peg or village sage who th aks everybody every bod 9 bus ness is h a perry B fuller and myself aho vho represent the west end of or juab bointy anty are responsible ble for the tion of the trustees bior the consol dated school d s r ct et and a majority of 0 ir citi citizens th our judgement jud gement good dr E J howell and the lion ilon herbert hopes live in the same pre and one had to be dropped the selection of jr howell was un an he was cons dered best lual tied fied to ill the position not cast ing any reflection reflections on the oth r mans abil ty the same judgement jud gement was used in the selection of the other members of the board politics re hion and every other consideration being set aside I 1 consider the se lection of the trustees above reproach there were no star chamber proceed ings with re arence to these appoint ments neither were any persons called into consultation the tian was made by the commissioners for the best interests of our pub c s I 1 am aware that everybody cannot be pleased I 1 suppose that at some time or another somebody s boy or girl did not get a position but that cannot be considered efficiency and qualifications govern as far as the present board of county comm ss on ers are concerned if it any individual wanted mass meetings called for h s benefi bench that was the present school boards busi ness not the bus ness of the county commiss boners the writer his has been b fore the public some and served to the best inheres s of h a constituents it is true thit that where certain interests wanted spec a privileges to the det ariment of th the many he d d not give h s approval and perhaps he will be found working along the same lines in the future I 1 am not a sav or and do not propose or pretend to lead thousands to final examinations or make them think my way I 1 will leave that to parents and f ed instructors during my term of of fice I 1 will not occupy a chair and play the mummy and when hen time comes to adjourn sine d e break my silence but will have my say when flings th are being dose done mr editor I 1 thank you in advance for space in your valuable paper I 1 remain sincerely bours ours P J FENNELL |
