Show A boost for our library I 1 take it that the reporter is much interested in the eureka public li arary and therefore offer no excuse in asking for a little space to call tb th attention of our citizens to its advantages I 1 in a recent talk with our I 1 branan I 1 was as much gratified to learn that our I 1 arary ranks third in the state for the number of books issued but was disappointed to learn that there was still many empty shelves that aught to be billel and think that if this fact were knoon kno that many of our citizens would either donate or lend their books so that the know ledga they contain would be more widely disseminated I 1 was further pleased to see on my fre frequent luent visits visit sl there so many of our bublic 1 bublic school pupils a eting quietly at the tables with not only the library them but their own note books which were ere being used in tab tak ing notes so that they were evident 13 1 using the library in one of its moat most useful functions educational and it is in th s aspect that I 1 wish to joint out its greatest value to us as a community I 1 hope our young men and young ladies on leaving either the public or h gh school will not think that they are done with edu cation that they are now and for ever through with books and school ing and that henceforth it la is work and nothing but work true society expects everyone of you to become useful but let me rem nd you that I 1 to be really useful and successful in j whatever hat ever vocation you engage you must keep in line with the progresso pro progress gressi i that is go ng on continually in all branches of human endeavor and to do so you must if you will achieve I 1 anything and add to the sum of hu I 1 man happiness keep reading and studying as well as ng in all that makes society society oci ety what it is today tomorrow and so on while life lasts which is forever there is no ansti aution so free and costs so little as an up to date public library there you can get in touch through the magazines books and newspapers mith all the best thoughts of the masterminds in every branch of hu man progress and whatever your vo cation in life may be if you read and r u gest in your particular I 1 n or study you are bound to male make yourself more valuable your years in school have already done much to help you but the schools can only help you to start right in the right way and it is 14 for you to continue in the work As coaell low ell says the better part of every man mans a education is that which he gives himself so you must con dinue your education getting more knowledge absorb ng mo e ideas and enlarging your from the experience and ideas of others while you are at work I 1 and this institution the c li ii arary bra in our city enables you to do this very thing whatever hat ever your busi ness or trade may be it is ready to instruct you through its wealth of books pham magazines etc it will supply you freely with instruct tion information and enjoyment cont nue then your education foagh digh the library as a public in ution maintained tor for th very purpose free for your use why not give a few hours then every week to the connected read ng of books and papers that are worth while it will give N you a better chance at the whole ot of I 1 fe le a wider der outlook and most of all in its dimmed ate imbor tance about the very work we are do ng day by day and by which we I 1 earn our own living to know these things makes life more interesting fuller and more valuable both to ourselves and our neighbors and to have knowledge is 1 to have power it will give the librarian much pleasure to talk these things over with ith you and help you to the best books in your line whether you are using the library or not I 1 am sure that you like every oth er boy or girl want to start life a 8 work ork right that vou want to get along well and become a useful man or woman begin now to get the best information you can in the ex peri ence and learning of others inthe in the study of the literature found in our public library thanking our ed tor for the space he has given us daniel connelly |
