Show 1 2 The Salina Sun Wednesday. August 24. 988 1 Football season 26, at home begins August ON P.M. NSHS SSHS, AT 4:30 WILL TAKE Practices have been going great this year for the 1988 season of football players and the coaches at North Sevier, One can see a team with size, ability, talent and returning experience and coach Glen Partridge seems pleased with the upcoming season and team. Partridge described this years team as one with cohesiveness, or being able to play together. This comes about because of the well rounded team with most positions two and three deep, a different talc to tell compared with last years team. About 80 students showed up for practices this week with just about forty involved in each of the varsity and JV program s.Coaches for this year will include Lee Huntsman, Line coach, Craig Gladwcll, Defensive coach as well as ends coach, and Steve Camp and Myron Mickelson JV coaches. Running backs for this team will include Travis Honcycut, Billy Tanner, Ryan Spainhower and Ryan Anderson which will give the team size, power and finesse. Brett Sorenson, a freshman, also looks promising in this position. There are three quarterbacks this year which is a luxury compared to last year, said Partridge. Between Justin Okerlund, Ricky Torgcrson and Corbin Partridge the team should be able to keep their offensive attacked mixed up with run and passing plays. Partridge stated that the fans would see a game mixed up theoption run as well as the power runs up the middle as the talent is there for both. Also he said that each quarterback has his own strengths that will allow them to be used in special situations during the game. Tight ends will be Steven Christensen, Brandon Kiescl and Jason Okerlund. This will give the team good height of 64" or better with each of these players plus they can catch the ball. Cody Foote, Tcrron Barney, Travis Mickelson, Matt Long and Freshman Nathon Hallows should play an active part of the game this Partridge explained that after each game during the season he will write down notes concerning the game and where they might improve. Many of the notes he made were the same, Stay with the Wishbone offense. So this year the option game will be back as does the talent to run it. Even though the team is big this year they will see some even bigger teams as they do traditionally every year and the schedule shows it. This year there are only three year as split ends. This is an important position in being able to catch the ball as well as blocking. The size of the team will come in the line this year. Size and experience is returning with most of these home games. They will open at home on August 26 on their new football field at 4:30 p.m. North Sevier will then travel the next three weekends to EAst CArbon, Milford and Beaver before playing Kanab the following weekend at home. They then will go to Hurricane, be back home for their homecoming on October 12 to host Milford and then play their last season game in linemen, Mark Mickelson, Lynn Christensen, Jason Hansen, Matt Jensen, Travis Tuft, Jason Peterson, Darrin Davis and Robie Forsythe. After one week of practice Partridge explained that it is hard to tell just how well the team will perform offensively but that he was impressed with the teams desire to work hard and together this year. The defensive squad has not been named so far this year but Partridge feels that with the returning talent and experience from last year and with the desire already shown this year we will have a solid defense this year said Partridge. We are already further ahead this year compared with last, said Partridge. This is partly because of not having to learn a new offense as the team did last year. n. In fact, I ve used it quite a bit the last few years in one form or another to help employees and patients want to do better and feel better about themselves. The statement goes something like this: When you tell me Im a doing good job or that I look good, I feel responsible to meet your expectations and not disappoint you, fori value your good judgment. In other words, we have a tendency to meet the expectations of others, especially if we respect their judgment and friendship. Psychologists call this positive reinforcement. You do your best to find the good and positive things about your friends or family members and tell them about it. Dont you agree that their behavior will reflect a positive building tendency? If we find the good and reinforce it, rather than criticizing and finding fault, results will be positive and uplifting. Catch people doing things right, and tell them bout it.
