Rex Allen Jr. to host state music contest The seventh annual True Value Country Showdown, the worlds largest musical competition, will hold its state level contest at the Sevier County Fair in Richfield, August 9 at 8 p.m. Rex Allen Jr. will host the competition and follow with a concert. Each year over 100,000 country music artists perform in local, state, regional and national shows competing to win over $150,000 in cash prizes. Discovery Tour 88 will be a chance for these children to find out how other people in Utah live and work and to voice their views on the future of the state. The children were selected from essays they wrote about what it is like to live in Utah. Jamie Jorgensen, of Sigurd, will be one of the twenty children on the tour. From the Festival of the American West in Logan to coal mines in Price to the Navajo Indian Reservation and the Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City it will be a two week odyssey like no other. Director Jennifer Stevens says the Discovery Tour will be a terrific opportunity for the kids. A camera crew from KUT V news will go along and will come back with an intriguing look at Utah through the eyes of children. The JTPA program offers those who meet the requirements the opportunity to become enrolled in a vocational training program at the local educational institutes, cither Sevier Valley Tech, or Snow College. 9 The JTPA program assists those qualified with paid tuition, book purchases and in some programs, the necessary tools for employment. The vocational training program is limited to either a one or two year program.
