Show 12 The Salina Sun Wednesday. March 30. 988 1 Jr. Jazz team takes second ! Jazz Basketball team, coached by Stan Simpson, has had a great season. They played teams from the Utah Southern Division, consisting of teams from Nephi to St. George. The Southern Division Tournament was held in Fillmore, March 18, 19, and 21. The Salma team worked their way to the playoff by outsconng their opponents by 20 points or more each game. The Championship game was between Salina and Ephraim teams. Salina went in with 12-- 0 record, while Ephraim, with a much taller team, went in with a 14-- 0 record. April 23, Invitational Friday, April 29, BYU Saturday, April 30, Park City Saturday, May 7, Region at North Sevier High Saturday, May Senior Citizen News Last Thursday, sixth Senior Citizens enjoyed a delicious potluck dinner and program at the Center. Sanpete County Commissioner, Keller Christensen, and his family, presented an outstanding program. The Salma area received 14 more memberships, and now have about 100 memberships for 1988. Jacob Sittre presented to the Senior Center about 400 movies and necessary machinery for playing these cass4ettes. The next Potluck dinner ill be April 28, with dinner hour changed to 7 p m. The North Sevier Wolf Women placed 2nd over all at the Dixie Invitational. With the upcoming Summer Games Regional Trials and the Regional High School Track Finals all occurring in Salina, this should be a great year for fans of Track and Field events. JAZZ WINNERS: These students from NS Middle School were undefeated through their Jr. Jazz Season, but lost their chance at the top berth by two points at the Salt Palace last week. More than 3,300 youngsters particiated in the tournament, and were proud of our 'Hometown Kids. The team then went to the Salt Palace, where three other teams were vying for the number one spot; the Salt Lake team representing the Northern Division; Provo and Orem teams representing the Eastern and Western Divisions. Salina played the Salt Lake Team, leading by 10 points most of the game until just 1 :45 minutes were left on the clock in the 4th quarter. Salt 1 ake had tied Salina, and went on to win, in the games. The Salma team earned a special pat on the back for all the hard work and talent they showed. The team was on the small side, with the exception of Nathan Hallows, a super rebounder, and high point man; and Ryan Roberts, a great forward and rebounder. Lance Mickelsen, a talented the big boys for guard, lots of points , and Courtney Christensen, being the only girl in the Tournament, showed her ability to outplay a lot of the boys. Lance Christensen, talented forward; Marty Mickelsen, great guard; and Blain Moore, also played different positions and proved their versatility and ability at each position. Andy Whiteman and Casey Bosshardt kept the big teams on their toes to keep up with the quickness and maneuverability. The team consisted of Nathan Hallows, 62 12"; Ryan Roberts, 58"1 Lance Christensen, 52 12"; Marty Mickelsen, 5 12"; Lance Mickelsen, 56"; Courtney Christensen, Blaine Moore, Andy Whiteman and Casey Bosshardt, all under 5, showed how quickness and teamwork can overcome the height of other teams.
