Show ' Price .35 Bid packages on Drug Awareness Seminar Tonight All parents and interested adults are urged to attend the Drug Awareness Seminar, tonight, Wednesday, March 9, at 7 p.m. at North Sevier Middle School. Drug Awareness Week is now in full swing at the school, and students are participating in many activities and seminars concerning the subject. This evening meeting has been set up especially for parents. Club Round Robin The North Sevier Gun Clul Round Robin will he held March 13 20, and 27. The Club will open at 10a.rn.foi practicing shooting, and the Shoot will begin at 1 1 a.m. sharp. For more information contact David Willden, Mark Nielsen, or Leon Quamberg. 529-766- - Wednesday, March 9, 1988 Volume 66 Number 10 NS Gun A- 8; prison are sent Bid packages and bid deadlines were sent to contractors last week for the new regional prison to be built in Gunnison. Bid packages will be as small as $2 million and as high as $15 million for this first years construction. March 7th was the advertising date for the Utilities and Sitework contracts. Estimated cost is set at $2.5 million and is scheduled to be completed October 1988. This will include site clearing and grading, road paving, sewer, water and storm drainage systems and underground electrical distribution conduit systems in place. May 8th will be the next bid advertising date. This will be for the construction of a central steam plant and steamdistribution system, a central water storage tank and installation oi emergency generators. This is estimated to cost $2. 1 million and scheduled to be completed June 1989. Theplant Maintenancebuilding which consists of a central kitchen and laundry with maintenance work area will be next. Bids will bclct out June 18, 1988 and the $3 million facility should be completed in May of 1989. The construction of a warehouse, vehicle maintenance facility, carports, dog kennel and entrance control station will be let next on July 1 1, 1988. This $2 million package should be completed in June of 1989. The inmate housing facility, perimeter fence and towers, administration building, medical and public shared services buildings, enforcement building and gate house will comprise of most of the first year building funds. This contract will also supervise and coordinate the security electronics and detention equipment. Bids will be let August9, 1988 in the neighborhood of $15 million. Construction should be completed by December 1989. FFA SWEETHEARTS Salina Orso, of Aurora was named the 1988-8- 9 FFA Sweetheart for the North Sevier FFA Chapter. First runner up was Cammy Gladwell, Salina; 2nd runner up was Kerry Malmgren also of Salina. Salina will now compete for the state FFA Sweetheart honors. The contest will be held in Logan during the State FFA convention at the end of this month. Golden Jubilee Salina Dont forget Stakes Golden Jubilee, set for March 12, at the Stake Center. Utah Summer Games Regional Trials coming area The has been chosen as the site of the first-evRegionals for the Utah Summer Games. The Games are held in Cedar City each summer, and have grown so much in popularity that it has become necessary that Regional eliminations be held. Logan will host the northern region trials; Orem, Murray and Salt Lake will host the Wasatch Front Games; and Salina-Richfie- The program at 5 p.m. will feature some of the outstanding talent in Sevier County. The dinner at 6 p.m. willbe a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Dancing will be to the of rhythms the Dirty Hat Band of Redmond, under the direction of David Peterson. All citizens 55 and older are special guests. Please bring your own dishes for the dinner. er ld will host the Trials for everything south of Nephi. Rabies immunization will be available foryour dogs, and they may also be licensed at that time. Remember that you must have proof of rabies immunization to purchase your license. Commodities will be distributed at the Redmond Senior Citizen Center, Thursday, March 10, at 2 p.m These commodities are for those age 60 and over, who are in need. The students are judged in three areas: 50 percent on academics; 25 percent leadership; and Sale 25 percent citizenship. Winners will receive Drama Club; and Academic Dccath $200 cash, and a Fullright Scholarship. Ion. Judges from Brigham Young University, Utah State, and Southern Utah State, go over the portfolios, and make an initial scoring. Jennifer Sorensen, is editor of the yearbook- - this year; advertising manager; member of Student Congress, and has earned her academic letter in each year of her high school career. She loves music, playing the piano and clarinet, singing in Stake and Ward Choirs, and also participated in the performance of the Messiah presented by Safina Stake. Jennifer has been nominated for Whos Who Among High School Students. She has been involved in Project Teamwork, an effort to help eliminate drug use in high schools. She is active in her Church and has held many leadership positions. She is now Seminary Historian. She supports her school teams by keeping stats for football and basketball.
