Be sure the product you use is registered for use on ornamental and shade trees The most common chemicals available in this area include Dursban (chlorpyriphos) and Lindane Follow the label rections carefully!!! The lilacash borer adult is a moth with yellow and black stripes on the abdomen It looks a bit like a hornet but is not clear-winge- Wear your learning like your watch In a private pocket: and do not pull it out and strike It merely to show that you have one — Earl of Chesterfield di- d Being moths they do not fly much in the day time but may be seen sitting on ash trees Another indication of borer activity in an ash tree is the presence of exit holes These are found in branches one inch in diameter or larger but not usually in those large enough that the bark has gotten rough At this time of year the adults are exiting or have just exited the tree and the pupal case is often seen sticking out of the tree This is an amber colored tube of a thin papery material that extends about 38 inch beyond the bark There is often some fine sawdust on the bark near the hole where the borer larvae made the exit hole just before it pupated If you live outside of Richfield and you see any of these symptoms on your tree you should protect it fn !v yV:- -' A For more information call Gyde Hurst Northern Continental Funding Inc (NORCON) has offices in over 13 states and now has opened a new office
