ThU newspaper welcome opinion from its reader concerning any subject pertinent to souUiem Utah While there is no restriction in length we request good judgment and letter which are to the point Anything of a libelous nature or defamation of character will not be considered for publication Letter must be signed with the writer' name address and telephone number which must be published along with the letter Deadline for letter to the editor is Friday at 12 noon Good Samaritan I am writing in regards to an act of unselfishness I witnessed an act of a Good Samaritan On Jan 30 1994 Jay Andersen was traveling on Interstate 70 w hen he w itnessed a traffic accident The accident involved four young college students that were traveling back to Cedar City Jay stopped and rendered assistance to those involved and started to direct traffic to warn the oncoming traffic of the accident and of the slick road conditions Fortunately no one was injured although the vehicle rolled on its side all the occupants were wearing scat belts Mr Andersen stayed until the trooper arrived and put the victims in his vehicle to keep them warm and away from any hazard If Mr Andersen's work was done this would have been an act of kindness But Jay went further and offered the kids a ride to his home some 20 miles away so they could call their parents and make arrangements to Jay went even further and offered his home to the four for the night Not knowing any of the victims and in this day and age is not only somewhat dangerous but very unlike the world of today Richfield was fortunate to have Jay as mayor of Richfield but we are more fortunate to have Jay the person living in our community Thank you Jay! Lane Ogden Richfield get them to their destination Time That most elusive and intangible thing which controls our lives While it’s true that a lot of people refuse to let time control them as far as being on time is concerned time is still the stuff which our society is based on One of the newest rages (within the past decade) is the daytimer a product of many companies which is designed to help the average person better manage his or her lime Many people arc able to plan their every move around their daytimer and wouldn’t be caught dead without it even in the bathroom When properly used these small books can outline nearly every facet of your life and put you on a schedule you wouldn't have believed pos- sible But as we are often told there are 24 hours in a day and everyone has the same amount of time The trick is learning how to use it to your advantage "Time flics when you're having fun" is the old saying My wife not to be outdone paraphrased that little gem into "Time flics even when you're not having fun" I have to believe that Everything is run by time or at least by time schedules We get up at a certain time go to work at a certain lime go to bed at a certain time and if we are an "on time" person we show up at an appointed lime on time There are those who refuse to follow a time schedule but they are still trapped in the time machine Our watches and clocks tell us what time it is and from that we try to schedule all the things we do The word "time" itself is perd haps one of the most words and yet one of the most r-used commodities We talk about saving lime (by hurrying or taking a shortcut) we can kill time by doing nothing we can waste over-use- unde- time There are Time Magazine time marches on lime and a half Timex watches and clocks and a time to live and a lime to die Things can be on time past time a long time a short time or what time is it? We say we don’t have time there isn't enough time or someone takes up too much lime One of the most interesting things about time is that we can't sec it we can't feel it we can’t taste or hear it And yet it passes by every moment that we live Every day that we live is one day of time less that we have in this world (a rather bleak way to see things) And as we get older we start to see more and more the value of lime as we start to count how much of it we can expect for the rest of our lives and compare it with that which we have had But even though time passes at the same rate for everyone I have to agree that it docs pass more quickly when you are having fun than when you are having a tooth filled at the dentist's office Appreciate Help When a loved one has a serious illness accident or disability those close to them do whatever they can to help in all areas financial emotional spiritual etc So it is with our son Kelly As The Richfield Reaper recently reported our son has a rare form of cancer and the costs of his medical treatments will be astronomical One of the ways we are trying to help is by putting canisters in stores around our area and asking patrons for some of their change The residents of our area are very generous and we thank them for their donations However there are some who are not as generous in fact they are greedy They have helped themselves to our canisters and the Kelly has to raise $100000 to pay for his treatments and the bone marrow transplant that is in his near future I hope whoever took the money needed it worse than Kelly Once again thanks to everyone who has been so generous with their contributions for our son LaVcll and Debbie Barney Elsinore money inside Chamber Meeting Feb 16 Lynda Whitlock director of New Horizons Crisis Center and the South Central Utah Leo Club will be the featured speakers for the Richfield Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Days Inn Feb 16 at noon Whitlock will explain the serCost will be $10 per person vices available for the victims of All chamber members and the domestic violence and homelesspublic are invited to attend ness A brief synopsis of the funding and structure of the center will For reservations andor quesalso be presented 1 tions call the chamber at 896-424- Pair Held In Drug Related Incident Two men were scheduled to face charges of possession of a con- trolled substance with the intent to distribute following their arrest near Salina last Friday moming The pair Billy Joe Taylor 34 Salt Lake City and Javier R Martinez 30 Tucson Ariz were to appear in Sixth District Court Tuesday The two riding in a station wagon with no visible sign of reg istration were stopped by a Sevier County sheriff s deputy and as the officer talked with the driver he detected a strong odor of marijuana A request far permission to search the vehicle was denied and a search warrant was obtained Officers found and seized 11 pounds of marijuana The two are being held in Sevier County Jail Lynnette Buchanan volunteer coordinator will discuss the responsibilities of the volunteers at the center Leo Clubs are the youth zation of Lions International organi- The South Central Utah Leo Club is comprised of 33 members from Sevier County There are members who attend all four high schools in Sevier District and range in age from 14 to 21 The club is sponsored by the Richfield Lions Club and the Leo adviser is Darlene Wabcl a member of the Richfield Lions Club Every mom is a "working" mother but some of us also work outside the home And I’ve come to the conclusion that the most difficult aspect of being a mother and working outside the home isn't trying to juggle all the different responsibilities — the cooking and cleaning shopping and shuffling meetings and memos bills and budgets day care and deadlines — all those different duties that need doing No the most difficult thing about working outside the home is finding someone with whom you can leave your child and feel good about it A day care provider needs to be more than someone who is going to make sure a child is fed and has a dry diaper when he's put down for his nap A provider should be more than someone who fixes a child his lunch reads him stories and takes him to the potty A day care provider imparts that child's life on a daily basis She helps mold and shape that little I -- O" Being a day care helps them paint pictures and docs provider has to be more than a job spelling bees She takes time a way to earn a living It has to be And she loves them enough to a labor of love rendered with care be firm with them and say no!" She even punishes them when she I feel very lucky to have a wonderful woman name Becky taking has to care of my son Devin As a workShe's wonderful And she has ing mom I am resigned to the fact that much of what Devin learns made my choice of working outside the home a much easier decision to will be learned at Becky's live with She has accepted a great It's at Becky's that he will learn responsibility to play with others and share where I entrust to her the most he will learn to wait his turn stand valuable and most important thing up for himself and respect others in my life — my son Every moming I leave him in her stead From Becky he will learn many full well he will be knowing lessons he will carry with him watched after and cared for but his life through mostly loved Becky cares for lots of kids and And so this year I send a very she loves each of them as if they were her own special Valentine filled with much love and appreciation to Becky I can see it in her eyes when she Thank you for all you do for Devin laughingly recounts a funny story And a special thanks to Terry about one of the kids or proudly boasts about "Stephen staying dry her assistant who provides the same love and April her daughter all day!" and very special helper And my hat Yes Becky loves the kids She is off to all who proudly wear the sings with them and plays with title of "Day Care Provider!" them laughs with them and leases them She teaches them songs Happy Valentines Day one's being |
