CHILI WITH BEANS Western Family, 303 283-410- Glen Allen is in the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City for treatment. A number of family members were in Manti over the weekend to visit with Mrs. Allen and to participate in the deer hunt. The visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Richard Allen and children and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen and children, Kaysville; robert (Anita) Cook and children, West Jordan; Jay Orrin Bell, Bountiful; Barbara Read, St. George, and Nadean, who is attending BYU. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wanlass had some of their family home over the weekend. Carolyn and Joel Moriyama came from Mr. and Mrs. Scott W. (Jackie) Johnson have moved into their first home. It is built upon the lot formerly occupied by the Joe Lyons home. The couple have a son, Carl. Mr. Johnson is the district Boy Scout executive, serving the Sanpete, Deseret and Juab districts. He is also a 2nd lieutenant in the Utah National Guard. Mr. Johnson graduated from BYU in April 1977 in youth He as served leadership. president of Alpha Phi Omega, a scouting fraternity, in 1976-7He and his wife met at BYU while they were playing in the Cougar Band. Mr. Johnson fulfilled an LDS mission to Japan from 1972-7Mrs. Johnson was an exchange student to Brazil in 1970 and served with Amigos de las Americas, as a representative of the medical volunteers in Guatemala and Honduras in the summers of 1969 and 1971. She received an associate degree in nursing from BYU in 1974 and a BS degree in family relations in April 1975. Larry Nielson came to Ephraim on Friday from North Hollywood, Calif. He will spend several days in Ephraim with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Glen J. Nielson, and will also take care of business matters in the Provo and Salt Lake areas. The Ward Olsen family had their second annual deer hunt family reunion during the past men were weekend. Michiko with lived the Millers while attending Manti High School her senior year. After graduating from high school, Michi attended BYU. While attending the Y, Michi was a member of BYU Folkdancers and was chosen Homecoming Queen her senior year. She is now living in Tokyo, working as an interpreter and translator. She sends greetto all her friends in ings Manti. Those who came were Mr. and Mrs. Kent (Kathy) Olsen and son Jeremiah, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Eileen) Jeffs, Castle Dale; Helen Olsen and J. Ivan Tew, grandfather, Nephi; a niece and her family, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Moore and two children, Los Bonos, Calif. Jay, Darrell and Vaughn Olsen joined the group in Ephraim. Mr. and Mrs. Gail (Beverly) Stout and three children came from Sandy on Friday afternoon to participate in the hunt. They are staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Olsen. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stout, who came from South Jordan, and are staying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Stout. Both of the young couples camped overnight below Blue Bell Flat, but returned Saturday evening unsuccessful in obtaining their prey, to attend Sunday services. They returned to the mountains on Monday and each succeeded in getting a deer early in the day. The Manti North Ward will men. Concord, Calif., have been enjoying the cool fall weather and the thrill of the deer hunt by joining other family members at the home of his sister Don and and brother-in-laBerniece Ottosen. Mrs. Joy Pashley and Mrs. Barbara Bernstein, Odgen, spent two days last week with Joys mother, Mrs. Nellie Doke. Joy and Barbara came to attend the lecture on the history of Sanpete and Sevier Counties presented Oct. 20 at Snow College. They also visited the historic Patten house in Manti before returning home. Mrs. Rhea Peterson had surgery on both of her hands and wrists on Friday at the Utah Valley Hospital. Her daughter-in-law- , Mrs. Bruce Peterson, brought her home on Sunday evening. She is experiencing a little difficulty in accomplishing all she would like to do, but is recovering satisfactorily. A pleasant side of this unpleasant experience was a visit from a sister, Mrs. Roy (Katie) Tervort, who came from Whittier, Calif., to be with Mrs. Peterson during and after the surgery. She remained a week before returning to her home. Mrs. Buddie (Dorothy) Anderson and family, Tooele, visited last Saturday at the home of her husbands parents, Lindon and Virginia Anderson. Mrs. George (Phyllis) Hansen is at home and doing well. She was a patient at the Utah Valley Hospital, where she had major surgery to correct and old problem. Richard Armstrong and son Belmont, Courtney, Calif., came for the deer hunt. They bagged their deer and returned home on Sunday. Miss Lucille Peterson has been visiting her brother, Rulon Peterson, the past week. Elton and Ethel Sorenson, and Mrs. Donald C. Dobson were happy to have some of their family home for the deer hunt. Neil and Donna Lee came from Salt Lake, Kari, Brent and his wife Dawna from Logan, and Douglas Neeley came Sunday to pick up his wife Cherie and daughter Doni, who were visiting with Cheries parents in Manti, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Wanlass. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt (Zella) Poulson moved to their home in Ephraim on Oct. 14, following his retirement from an in- surance business. They have lived in his Salt Lake home for over three years, and received assistance from their children in moving their belongings to the new location. The group enjoyed dinner together. Mr. and Mrs. George McNeil came from Salt Lake to visit Salt Lake City, visited Monday at the Lucien Peterson home. Alma Larsen is still a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake. He is slowly recovering from stomach surgery that he underwent on Sept. 30. His wife, Mrs. Pearl Larsen, is staying at the home of her son, Lyle Larsen, Layton, so that she is able to visit her husband every day. Mr. and Mrs. John (Debbie) Ballard came from Panguitch to visit with her parents, Mr. and and to Mrs. A1 Green, participate in the hunt during the weekend. John met his five to hunt in the brothers Indianola area. All were successful in getting a deer. The Ballards returned to Panguitch on Monday, where he will resume his teaching assignment.
