The concert is supported by a grant from the Utah American Revolution Bicentennial Commission. Tickets are priced at $2.00, adult; $1.00, students and children. A Snow Telefund Readied Maureen Scott and Greg Maylett will spearhead the Snow College telethon November 16, 17, 18. Greg Maylett, Snow College central Sanpete alumni chapter president, has announced that the annual telefunds conducted by the chapter will be held the evenings of November 16, 17 and 18. The telefunds will seek contributions for scholarships and other financial aids for area students who plan to attend Snow College. This year a total of $28,097 has been awarded to Sanpete County students in financial aids and scholarships, Mr. Maylett explained. Gifts for Veterans Project Underway of Friday Utah Symphony Orchestra will perform tonight in Snow College auditorium. Manti City Receives Two Community Awards The Ephraim American Legion Auxiliary is sponsoring a project to send money or gifts to the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City. Purpose of the project is to assist hospitalized veterans to present Christmas gifts to their families. Donors are encouraged to be generous in giving of either gifts or money, according to Mrs. Francell Steck. This is the time of the year to let the veteran and his family know the world has not forgotten them, Mrs. Steck said. Lets all give generously so they will have a joyous Christmas this year. Cities besides Manti which received awards for overall progress were Brigham City, Layton, Monticello, Panguitch, Pleasant Grove and Roosevelt. Other awards sent to various cities for youth involvement, cultural enrichment, human relations, economic development, community services and excellence in the physical environment. Manti received special praise for an outstanding scrapbook. It was prepared by Mrs. Lillian Fox. The 15 judges who selected the award winning communities based their decisions on visits to the cities which participated in the program and on the materials contained in the scrapbooks. In addition to President Kimball's address, the program included selections from Springville's production of The King and 1 and from the American Fork Pageant of the Arts. Ephraim Postmaster Appointment Made Senator Jake Gam announced this week that a new postmaster for Ephraim has been named. Gam said the appointment went to Richard who comes to Zabriskie, Ephraim from Provo. Ephraims new postmaster is a big, informal man with a matching laugh. His payroll checks will be made out to Richard Zabriskie, but he prefers to be called Dick. His principal hobby is Western history. He likes to read it, travel its trails, explore He also likes to its collect guns associated with it. He maintains membership in both the Utah State and Montana State Historical Societies. He knows theres a lot of Western history in Sanpete County's buildings, traditions, which is one reason stories he's glad to be here. He and his wife Vicki plan to build a home in Ephraim and put down roots. There are other Zabriskies s. in the county,' he says. Were related. He was born in Raymond, Alberta, Can., in 1939. The family moved to Provo in 1942. He graduated from Brigham Young High School and then attended BYU for three years. of His major? History, course, with teaching the goal. The Zabriskies are active LDS members who have held various church assignments. But Dick also wants to reserve some of those spare hours for Western history. Ive just finished reading a book about the Blackhawk War, he says, and thats one road I want to explore further in relation to Sanpete history. And of course there are others. This is a rich area for history buffs like me. |
