Starting time has been changed to 8 p.m., according to Stake President Wilbur W. Cox. The 8 p.m. starting time will remain in effect until after Glen Alder Fred Johnson October general conference. Those requested to be present at the stake family night are the stake presidency, high council members with assignments with stake auxiliary organization leaders, stake Special Interest and Young Adult leaders and ward representatives of these two latter groups. Priesthood Leadership Dated Farm Bureau Opposes Land Use Bill At a meeting of the Sanpete County Farm Bureau Board held last Thursday in the Manti office, the board voted unanimously to oppose Udalls Land Use Planning Bill No. H.R.3510. This bill was once defeated but is being brought' up again for further consideration in the House of Representatives. The rules for the writing contest were in the paper a week ago. It can serve as a reminder to get busy and write again and even try for the first time. The contest is open to all Sanpete County residents as well as all former residents. There is prize money for each category. Recording these incidents for the enjoyment of present and future generations is most important. Put your memory and creativity to work before the July 1 deadline. All in Readiness for Miss Manti Pageant pril 19 is the date set for the Manti Pageant. The gala affair will be held at the Manti High School auditorium at 8 p.m. Admission will be adults, $1.00, children 50c. Tickets can be bought ahead of time from any of the contestants, or that evening at the 1975 Miss door. Seven Manti maids will be in competition for the crown of Miss Manti. They are: Joni Bradley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bradley; Kerrie Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Howell; Karen Wheeler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wheeler; Jerrie Nielsen, daughter of Robert and Beth N. Munk; Kathy Howell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Howell; Sandra Mer-riadaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drew Merriam and Tannie Gleave, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winston Gleave. Wayne Dzubak, sports television announcer for KCPX, and his wife, Margaret, will emcee at the pageant. That night the girls will participate in their evening gown competition and present The Ephraim LDS Institute invites the students of Snow College to attend the Friday Forum on April 18, when the speaker will be Jane Thompson, the Creative Director of BYU Program Bureau. Ms. Thompson was born in Malta, Idaho. She attended the BYU and earned her B. A. degree in music. She also served on the general board for 16 years. Ms. Thompson started the program bureau at the BYU in 1952. She has toured many places throughout the world with this group. She has helped some students get their start in the professional world. Some of these have been Sandi and Salli of the Lawerence Welk Show, The Lettermen and Heather Young of 20th Century Fox. She was honored when Provo City declared November 14, 1968 as Janie Thompson Day. She was also selected as one of the six Outstanding Women at BYU in 1971. Ms. Thompson received a national honor in 1972 when a citation was given by the U.S. Secretary of Defense for efforts in behalf of the U.S. Servicemen throughout the world. She is now involved in an Indian musical called the Lamanite Generation. They have toured the country and this summer they are traveling to South America, Mexico, and Central America. The subject of her talk is Tours, Talents, monies. and Testi- their various talents. There will also be a question and answer session. They will perform a song and dance centered around the theme for this years pageant which is Reflections. Everyone is encouraged to come and support the Miss Manti Pageant. Sanpete Business Activity Increases 6.7 Business activity in Sanpete last County increased by 6.7 year, according to a study just released by Utah Foundation, the private research organization. For the state as a whole, the overall gain in business volume amounted to 11.8 during 1974. A large part of the increased , dollar sales volume in 1974, however, was due to inflation. The foundation report shows that gross sales in Sanpete County, as measured by local 0.7. option sales tax collections, amounted to $24,462,000 during 1974. This compares with 0 total business activity of in 1973, $16,786,000 in 1970, and $12,979,000 in 1967. The total increase in business volume between 1967 and 1974 in Sanpete County was equal to 88.5. Throughout the entire state, business activity rose by 119.5 during this same period. Inflation, of course, accounted for much of this gain in the dollar volume of business activity. Between 1967 and 1974 a 47.7 rise was recorded in the consumer's price index. The worlds first cowboys were Tories during the American Revolution from Westchester, New York. Historical Society Asks for Old Photos Super Olympics Will Be Held Venture and explorer scouts of the Sanpete South District will hold their own super Olympics during April. The ventures will compete April 22 and the explorers April groups in the Manti Armory and the Manti Boys Club. The contests will begin each night at 6:30. The public is invited to come out and watch the competition in ten events. McGarry was born in Beaver, Utah. Education following high school included a BS from the University of Utah and his DDS degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He is presently practicing dentistry in Manti. He served in World War II and was a prisoner of war in the Philippines from May 1941 to Feb. 1945. Active in civic and political affairs, he has served on the South Sanpete School Board, chairman of the Republican Party for the past four years, chairman of the Sanpete County Draft Board from 1955-197- district governor of the Lions Club in 1965. He is a member of the Manti American Legion Post and is a past commander of that organization. He was listed in Who's Who He is in the West in presently a member of the 1972-73-7- Pierre Fauchard Academy of Dentristry and the Royal Health Society of England. Dr. McGarry is married to the former Donna Mackay. They are the parents of four children: Wendy :Mrs. Stephen Bromley) of East Lansing, Mich.; Kristeen (Mrs. Richard Harrington of Provo); Brad (serving a mission in the California Arcadia Mission); and Nancee, a sophomore at Manti High School.
