The adults were busy with minor repairs to closets and stairways, while some joined the youth in getting to know the seniors they were serving. The youth experienced something very positive while providing this service. In one house, volunteers danced to Elvis playing on the eight-track. While most of the youth were serving with their hands, there were others who served just as importantly by visiting with the participants and listening to many stories. Inside one home, a group of intrigued youth gathered around about six photo albums that were spread out on the coffee table. Others simply sat in front of a fan and chatted with seniors over cold sodas. Although a common sigh of relief and gratification was heard from all of the participants, the volunteers will never truly know how greatly appreciated they were.
