Show Utah Hitchhiker, 29, Slain By California Patrolman 1 SACRAMENTO A Utah hitchhiker was shot dead Wednesday bv a California highway patrol- ' man 'v,ho said the man pulled a pistol on him. the Sacramento County sheriffs office (p) ; - The sheriffs spokesman, Bill Miller, identified the victim as Glen I. Johnson of Salt Lake City. The patrolman was Earl Doyle, an eight-yea- r veteran who recently won a reward for valor. ; Doyle told newsmen he ap- preached Johnson and another - hitchhiker as they were trying, to get rides on the South Sacramento Freeway. The patrolman said he was going to give the two a ride to a safer spot, and asked them if they had any weapons.
