Show SUNDAY SERVICES the sacrament services at the tabernacle last sunday afternoon were devoted to a discussion ot of topics that affect the young people principally at the very present time the speakers were elders joseph A west 13 1 3 P horsley IIo raley and D 0 jensen elder west printed pointed out the needs of the young people who are attending school lor for more training in hand work or so that they might bo be able to go to work and earn something at the same time contribute to the growth and development of tho communities in which they live ile he endorsed heartily the splendid school system which prepares the mind to cope with the problems of life but deplored the fact that the manual training had been neglected to the extent that it has he spoke for the taxpayers and said that he would be willing to have his taxes increased in order that these other departments might be incorporated in the curriculum elder eider horsley gave a spirited account of the activities in the along vocational lines and declared that the leaders of the church had recognized that necessity of keeping the boys and girls busy physically as well as mentally and so the department of vocation had been established and already the fruits are being seen outlined the work being done in nox box elder stake and stated that the oung folks aro gradually awaken to the fact that splendid opportunities are presented to them tor for their development supt bupt jensen jansen who was the concluding speaker told something of what the schools are doing in the way of providing manual training for the alie students ile he pointed with pride to the high school and its three departments manual training domestic science and domestic art and he stated that it was the ambition of the board of education to have established before long a domestic art department in the seventh and eighth grades of the elementary schools of the county told what little denmark has accomplished by reason of cooperation between taxpayers and the government through which the most thorough and efficient system of education to be found in the world has been established the needs of tile the system here at home enumerated by the previous speakers all require money to establish them and the superintendent gave it as his candid opinion that one mill more tax would enable the board of education to institute the departments agents which he had mentioned ile he aso also intimated that there is a possibility of tile the box elder high school being designated as a branch normal of the university of utah in which event home boys and girls can receive special training for the profession of teaching which would overcome the necessity of importing teachers from outside the county and state with respect to the teaching C corps of the school district supt bupt jensen said that the very best material that can be secured is employed and preference is always given home production the meeting was presided over by 1 W C horsley and the musical numbers rendered by the choir were the hymns ill praise my bly maker reverently and Ble meekly ekly and the anthems rouse 0 ye Bl mortals and let the Blount mountains ains shout for joy the sacrament was administered by the bishopric of tho the third ward during the passing of which elder A BI merrill read an editorial from the deseret news entitled here and now and miss bliss crystal jeppson rendered a beautiful organ number there were present the prayers were offered by elders J A fishburn ris liburn and wilford jensen |
