The horse he rode and owned by his parents, Cay Disan, took the high point gelding award. Special ta The Tribune EVANSTON A whisper from the past arose from the basement of the Evanston Baptist Church when Maunce chairman Blake, of the deacons of the church and his Lon Kugler, removed a beam which had Chinese letters on four sides About 15 years ago, Vick Sundberg, a contractor, was installing a furnace in the par sonage and reported a large beam with wnting on it It was not until last week that Mr. Blake's curiosity got the better of him and he decided to remove the beam and have it translated. Brace for Parsonage The beam was a brace on an addition to tne parsonage It appeared to have been sawed off at one end and the other end has holes on one side that makes it appear as if it might have been a post on a porch. Square nails were found in it and on all four sides are painted large, black Chinese letters. A translation reads: "This store always has fruit, fresh fish for sale and chicken for sale too. This is repeated on each side. Underneath the Chinese wnting on one side are the letters L & H with the numbers 777 underneath. On two other sides were the name Lee 4 H . The second name had faded away with age. English Words Under the white coat of paint beneath the lettering can be seen faintly the English words "Oysters and Meat in capital letters it appears that the board had been taken from an Occidental grocery store and then used for the Chinese store sometime in the ISOOs. POPG? N. Sweet, 1598 Rd. (3610 South), reported to police that burglars removed a holster and cash, total value $380, from his office at 200 S. Mam No. 1301.
