When they were alxiut 99 percent sold the tickets for Led Zeppelin were released. The kids started camping in front at 2 p.m. the Saturday before the tickets were sold, said Mr. Knudsen. It is far and away the longest wait anybody here has ever been through." The tickets went on sale May 17 and two and half hours after the ticket windows opened all 11,086 tickets were gone. By May 10 Bread was sold out, to the tune of 13,075, The difference in the two totals is explained by Zeppelins elaborate lighting set up, seats all the eliminating behind the stage. The British were bringing no warm up act and will erect thirteen, 14 foot mirrors to reflect the lights back onto the stage for their Saturday show. Concerning the rapid sellout We had Mr. Knudsen said, only minor problems with the crowd, they all cooperated extremely well under the circumstances. The speed of this sellout is, of course, a record. Weve never sold anj thing out this fast, not hockey, not basketball, not rodeos, not anything. Melodic Weeken In Store in Zion Selling out the Salt Palace for any event is no easy feat, but when you sell out two acts in the same week, one of which took all of two and half hours, you are really cooking. Bread's Problems If you were among the audi- ence for the Bread concert or read my review of the show in Mondays Tribune you may know that a lot of people were unhappy with the show. I thought it was just the end of the road blues or stalencss on the part of the band. As it turns out it was much more. The bands equipment truck had a Hat tire and overturned outside of Flagstaff, Ariz.. ruining $30,000 worth of equipment at 6 a.m. May 19. The called Doug Knudsen, Salt Palace event manager, at 9 a.m. and asked him to round up everything he could find for the show. Mr. Knudsen used equipment from five music stores and borrowed in struments from local bands for Bread to use. None of the! equipment on stage that night was the bands. Unfortunately, no one was made aware of this incident and no one in the group made any mention of it from the stage. Its sad to think that the last Bread concert had to be done under such a cloud, and worse because no one in the audience knew the reason for the lower than usual quality performance.
