Shakespeare'! laboratory Friday was turned over to Charles Peter Salt Lake City mining engineer and collector of first editions and fare signatures Mr‘ Peter who claims ownership of the signature and a rare old book in which it la pasted obtained possession of the volume it was learned following a dispute over ownership which involved several weeks of negotiations Harley W Gustin attorney for Mr Peter made a demand that the volume be surrendered to hie client and Professor Lewis who hoped to obtain the rare signature for the University of Utah complied in order to avoid possible litigation Estate Involved The book containing the signature according to Mr Gustin was a part of Mr Peter’s library of rare first editions and signatures which he has been collecting for the past 25 years Neither he nor Mr Peter would reveal bow or where the book was originally acquired by the latter They did say however that the Unfirfersity of Utah obtained the book and signature through the family of one of Mr Peter’s friends who had it in his custody for some time This friend is now deceased but the question of ownership involved his estate The volume according to Mr Gustin was surrendered to Mr Peter by Professor Lewis and a representative of the bank which Is executor of the estate Conceals Elans Mr Peter declined to discuss at this time the history of the signature or what he plans to
