Show THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE WEDNESDAY MORNING AUGUST 15 1934 L C C GETS WOMEN’S TILT S Dale Women Increase Lead in Links League MEET OPENS AUG 20 FORT Germania A C Lays Plans for STAR CHAMP j By PHIL McLEESE The women’ state golf tournament Will be held over the Salt Lake Country club links instead of at Fort Douglas as originally scheduled This announcement was made on Tuesday by Mrs L S' Packman president of the Utah State Women's The change was Golf association made Mrs Packman said because of the comparatively poor condition of the Fort course which has been heavily bombarded with tournaments Of one kind or another this season The competition will open Monday With the qualifying round Play will continue through Friday on whieh day the championship encounter will be held Defending Champion Mrs J H Evans of Fort Douglas Is the defending champion and is ex pected to enter the meet this season in spite Of the fact that she has been 111 for some time She participated in the team match which the Fort played with the Salt Lake Country club Tuesday and although she lost two and points to Mrs A H Means the champion played steady golf She has been working steadily on her game for some time and should make an excellent defense of her crown But the competition for the title this season is expected to be keener than it has for some time All of the topnotchers are expected to enter — it will be the first time they have all battled for the same championship for several years— and Mrs Evans will have her hands full The chief opponents of Mrs Evans re expected to be Mrs A H Means and Miss Betty Botterill of the Salt Lake Country club Mrs L S Packman of Fort Douglas Mrs R C Hill and Mrs O C Allen of Bonneville and Mrs L G Shriver Miss Helen Hofmann and Mrs Pearl Riley of -
