Show HILLTOP TIMES Know From 1 take annual leave on Dec. 26 will not be charged annual leave (or any other form of paid leave, compensatory time off, or credit hours). This policy does not apply to employees who receive annual premium pay for standby duty (5 U.S.C. 5545(c)(1)) or firefighters who are covered by special pay provisions (5 U.S.C. 5545b). An employee who is required to work non-overtime hours on Dec. 26 is entitled to holiday premium pay (5 U.S.C. 5546(b)). If an employee has scheduled "use or lose" annual leave on Dec. 26 and is unable to reschedule that leave for use before the end of the leave year (i.e., Jan. 10, 2015), the leave will be forfeited. When use or lose leave is forfeited under these conditions, the law (5 U.S.C. 6304(d)) does not permit Protection From 9 cidents. If you have a car problem or are in an accident and need a tow, verify the tow truck that arrives is the one your insurance company or auto club sent and not a scam artist who's chosen you as their next target of opportunity. Beware of common parking lot scams such as staged accidents. Staged accidents are used by criminals to gain access to your personal information, place unwarranted claims with your insurance company or convince you to directly pay damages to them to avoid involving the police or your insurance company. Force Protection is everyone's business. Everyone is a sensor. If you see something, say something! Hill Heroes Volunteers The Hill Heroes group is looking for volunteers to assist with creating deployment dolls and pillowcases for deserving families around Hill Air Force Base. Volunteers gather the third Friday of each month at 9 a.m., to cut, iron, sew, stuff, and create "stuffed mommies and daddies." Leader, Cindy Schmierer, and her co-leader, Tammy Allen, work diligently each month to meet their designated orders from the Airman & Family Readiness Center who collect orders during deployment briefings. Anyone interested in helping with the efforts bers to use in an emergency situation. During the holidays, practice OPSEC with your children and at home. If your kids become separated in public places, teach them not to walk around looking for you. Instead, quickly go to the nearest checkout counter or security officer and tell them you need help finding your parents. Don't make your home a target for burglars. Store presents out of sight if possible, but if you display gifts under a tree, keep nearby windows closed and the drapes or blinds shut at night or when you aren't home. Also, don't let holiday trash make you a target. Boxes from expensive items like jewelry or electronics left curbside for trash collection provide critical indicators to potential thieves about high value items located in your household. Finally, practicing good OPSEC principles along with a little bit of fore- thought will go a long way to protect yourself and your family during the holiday season and ensure this is truly the most wonderful time of year.
