Show Hilltop HILLTOP TIMES TIMES July 24, 2014 9 Tips to reduce mosquitos offered BY MICHAEL J KINNAN SrA, Public Health Entomology If you see any strange looking devices hanging from trees on base, it may just be a mosquito trap set up by the Public Health Office. Public Health routinely traps mosquitos during the summer months to monitor populations and test for diseases they may carry. The trap you'll most communally see is the CO2 trap. CO2 traps contain dry ice that slowly releases CO2 gas, mimicking normal respiration in humans and other mammals. This attracts the mosquitos, which are then trapped in an attached net. Once trapping is complete, the mosquitoes are sorted and females are shipped out for species identification. The Public Health entomology section highly encourages Hill residents to reduce the mosquito population and to avoid getting bitten by utilizing the following tips: • Stay away from stagnate pools of water • Apply insect repellant to your skin containing DEET when outdoors at dawn or dusk • Empty water that collects in flower pots, pet water dishes, birdbaths, swimming pool covers, buckets, barrels and cans • Remove discarded tires and other items that could collect water • Check rain gutters and clean them if clogged • Be sure to check for containers or trash in places that may be hard to see, such as under bushes • Dispose of or store tin cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots or similar water-holding containers not being used For more information on mosquito avoidance and prevention measures please visit: http://www cdc.gov/features/stopmosquitoes/, or contact the Public Health Entomology Office at 801-586-9556. Mosquito traps like shown here are used around the base to trap and monitor mosquitos. ALONG FOR THE RIDES R. But rather than finding a quick exit and accept minimal damage, the filmmakers kept going, searching for something, and short of the Hindenburg disaster, they found it, but oh, the humanity! So, after 109 minutes of "huh?" I'm leaving the theater a bit stunned by what just transpired. I watched the extremely talented Leslie Mann take what should have been an interesting look at a cheated-on wife Kate and how she copes with the shocking truth that her dirt bag husband Mark (Nikolaj CosterWaldau) has been having multiple affairs and turns it into a bizarre revenge flick with an unlikely alliance between three very ticked-off women. The first crack in the cement comes when the normally subtle Mann is flinging herself all over the various sets to create physical comedy where humor- ' t i; ------ THE ** FILM: The Other Woman' FEATURING: Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Don Johnson and Kate Upton BEHIND THE SCENES: Directed by Nick Cassavetes ("My Sister's Keeper" The Notebook"), filmed in New York City PLAYING: 6 p.m. Running time: 109 minutes MPAA RATING: (PG-13) mature thematic material, sexual references and language " ous conversations usually suffice. She appears to be trying too hard to compensate for a paperthin script and it only gets more uncomfortable as it goes along. So when the first of Kate's hubby's two lovers appears, Cameron Diaz as Carly, who is equally distraught that this seemingly loving man is actually married, Kate starts stalking Carly for some answers. NO - Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation Betrayed by her straying hubby, Kate (Leslie Mann) takes solace in some whipped cream, a lavish hotel room, and an attentive pooch. This reluctant, but developing friendship between Kate and Carly turns out to be the highlight of the movie as they try to understand the mystery of relationships amidst a continuous fog of alcohol. Even when they track slimy Mark to the beach, where they see him groping Amber, girlfriend No. 2, (played by model Kate Upton doing her best Bo Derek imitation), they are still moderately entertaining, but now more in a slapstick kind of way.
