In a military change of command ceremony that took place at Hill Air Force Base Wednesday, Col. Ronald Jolly Sr. took charge of the wing, replacing Col. Kathryn Kolbe, who is retiring from the Air Force after more than 20 years of service. The 75th Air Base Wing units totaling more than 20,000 personnel. The wing is also responsible for the 1,490-squaremile Utah Test and Training Range in Utah's west desert. The commander of the wing serves in a similar capacity to that of a city mayor. Kolbe took over the wing in January of 2013. Since that time, the wing's operating and maintenance budget has been See JOLLY I Page 11 Military personnel invited to picnic The Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee is inviting all military personnel and their families to its annual Salute to Our Nation's Defenders Picnic from 3-7 p.m. July 18 at Centennial Park. The picnic is held to recognize and thank the military members for their service. Catered gourmet food, fun games for the kids and entertainment will be provided. RSVP to unit first sergeants. Free tickets to Raptors Game Hill Air Force Base just received free tickets to The Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee/Hill Appreciation Night at Lindquist Field with the Ogden Raptors at 7 p.m., Aug. 8. The Raptors will play the Helena Brewers. This is an annual event that is sponsored by the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee, or MAC, and the Ogden Raptors organization to show support for all the members of Team Hill and their families. This is a family event, and there is no limit on the number of tickets per individual. The 75th ABW PA Office asks organizations to appointment someone to pick up tickets for the organization. Tickets are available in the 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs Office, Bldg. 1102 (Room 115). Show Takes Off Pilots, jumpers, displays spread smiles at Hill BY BRYON SAXTON Hilltop Times staff H ILL AIR FORCE BASE — Thousands of eyes were glued to the sky Saturday as some of the country's best aerial performers "knife-edged," "dived" and "hammered" their way through the air as part of the 2014 Warriors Over the Wasatch: Power of Airmen air show and open house at Hill Air Force Base. The Hill team that helped organize the event put Saturday's crowd at about 300,000 people. The two-day event concluded Sunday. "The air show is about showing SHOW I Page 5 Over the Wasatch a deafening success BY DANA RIMINGTON The 75th Civil Engineer Group has contracted a utilities project for Canberra Street that requires the contractor to trench across Wardleigh Road to make connection into the existing sanitary sewer on the south side of Wardleigh Road. This effort is scheduled through July 12, weather permitting. Wardleigh Road north of Bldg. 849, starting at east end of Bldg. 55, will be partially closed during this project. Traffic will be reduced to one lane each way. Accessibility will be maintained as deemed safe around construction equipment. HILL AIR FORCE BASE — While watching a World War II-era P-51 flying at Sunday's Warriors Over the Wasatch air show at Hill Air Force Base, Doug Compton, of Morgan, affectionately talked about his Boeing PT-17 "Stearman" he was standing next to. The open-cockpit biplane was used to train young cadets before they progressed to their assigned aircraft during WWII. "It's important for us to carry on our history because these planes were such a huge part of the war effort, and we like The Davis Arts Council plans a Hill Air Force Base Appreciation Concert featuring Thompson Square Aug. 21 at the Ed Kenley Amphitheater in Layton. The concert will begin at 8 p.m., and Team Hill employees can purchase 2-for-1 tickets for $34. The tickets are normally $34 each. The limit is two 2-for-1 tickets. The tickets can be purchased at the Davis Arts Council Office at 405 N. Wasatch Drive, Layton. The event is sponsored by Boeing. An estimated 500,000 visitors attended the air show over the two days. Normally off-limits to the public, the base was opened for the weekend so the public could access the flight line and see exhibits, static displays and aerial performers.
