Show ItTIMES Satellite pharmacy to open soon BY JAMIE LAMPROS Hilltop Times correspondent HILL AIR FORCE BASE — Hill Air Force Base has the busiest pharmacy in Utah as well as the busiest pharmacy in the Air Force operating from a single site. The pharmacy processes 310,000 prescriptions each year, or 1.4 thousand each day. With only six windows available to wait on customers, the pharmacy badly needed to ex- pand. On July 21, the new 75 MDG Satellite Pharmacy located in the Base Exchange will open for business. "The satellite pharmacy is needed to decrease patient wait times and increase the pharmacy capacity to process prescriptions," said Capt. Jason Bingham, officer in charge of the pharmacy. "The current pharmacy only has six windows and is saturated six hours of the day causing increased wait times. The six window Exchange Satellite Pharmacy will double the base's capacity." Bingham said the Exchange Pharmacy will dispense all refills and process all off-base prescriptions including faxes. Refills called in by 5 p.m. will be ready for pick the following business day at noon. Faxes will be ready 24 hours after received. "Patients can minimize wait times by encouraging their providers to fax their prescrip- tions prior to their arrival and utilizing the pharmacy from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.," Bingham said. The pharmacy will staff 12 employees and three volunteers. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. "Increasing the number of prescriptions filled on base is a win-win for the patient and DoD," Bingham said. "Patients are able to fill all Tricare eligible prescriptions on base with absolutely no co-pay." Through the non-formulary process, the pharmacy is able to approve many medications that were previously unable to be filled on base, Bingham said. Patients are encouraged bring any medication they are currently filling off-base on base to be entered into the non-formulary process. The DoD benefits because military pharmacies are the most economically point of service to execute the pharmacy. SMOKING THE COMPETITION DANA RIMINGTON/Hilltop Times correspondent Mike and Clen Raynor, Team Pig PlGasso, worked together on their barbecued meat creations during the Battle of the BBQ event held Saturday at The Landing. Inaugural Battle of the BBQ brings cooks to the outdoors BY DANA RIMINGTON Hilltop Times correspondent H ILL AIR FORCE BASE — The smell of barbecued and smoked meat wafted down the streets from The Landing, leading the nose right to the action where Hill Air Force Base hosted the inaugural Battle of the BBQ last Saturday. With 14 teams competing at the event, it was an eclectic group of people; some were there to relax and visit while barbecuing up their best meat, while others were more serious, spending the weeks leading up to the event preparing and perfecting their grilled offerings. Stephanie Hammer, special events coordinator for the event, said they had several requests from enlisted military, officers and contractors who work on base to put together such an event, so they did so, especially when realizing it has been a rough few years for the base. "It's been tough on us, so anytime we can come together and put our feet up and enjoy each other's company without the pressure of work, especially in this kind of environment, we take advantage of these opportunities since they are good for our morale," said Hammer, who hopes the event will continue in future years.
