The multirole, fifthGeneration Fighter arrived from the 422nd Test and Evaluation Squadron, Nellis AFB, Nev., and is scheduled to undergo postproduction modifications at the Ogden Air Logistics Complex. Hill, Lockheed Martin and Utah elected officials will gather for a ceremony Sept. 20. The ceremony marks the beginning of depot maintenance of the F-35 at Hill AFB and is not a basing decision. On Tuesday, Sept. 24 a fun run will be held in conjunction with the Combined Federal Campaign. The run begins at the Warrior Fitness Center Track. Pre-register with your unit CFC project officer or register at the event. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., run starts at 8 a.m. A $15 donation gets a T-shirt, but donations are not required to run. Cash or checks will be accepted; make checks payable to CFC Morale Fund. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place in men's and women's categories. CFC Kick-Off Event at the Landing Oct. 2 More than 50 charities and nonprofits will be present at the kick-off event for the Combined Federal Campaign. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Oct. 2. The event will award prizes, publicize choices through popcorn ads 4 or skits 4 and offer federal employees a chance to ask questions and meet with representatives. The goal this year is $1 million and 3,500 donors. For as little as $1 a pay period, it's possible for federal employees to get support a cause of their choosing. ALEX R. LLOYD U.S. Air Force Air Force Ball honors past, future Lt. Gen. Bruce A. Litchfield, Air Force Sustainment Center commander, will speak at the Air Force 2013 Ball to be held Sept. 20. "Honoring Our Past ... Embracing Our Future," will be the theme of the event to be held in Hangar 37. Mess dress/semiformal is required for military personnel. Formal/black tie or business attire is required for civilians. Social hour is at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. Contact your first sergeant for tickets or for more information contact Maj. Women's History Month volunteers The Equal Opportunity Office acts as advisers on behalf of the base commander for special/ ethnic observances and events throughout the year. The planning committee for the 2014 Women's History Month needs to be established. In order to properly plan and commemorate this observance, it is requested that each organization canvass its units for volunteers who would like to chair or help with this event. Committees are established to properly commemorate all special observances throughout the year. They enhance the efforts to recognize the continuous achievements of all cultures and increase cultural awareness, mutual respect, and understanding; thereby enhancing crosscultural awareness and promoting harmony among all military members, their families, and the civilian workforce. Committee meetings will be held in the EO Office, Building 1294 South End or other locations deemed appropriate by the committee. The date and time of the first meeting will be announced by the EO Office; follow-up meetings will be determined/announced by the committee. Gen. H. Brent Baker Sr., will host an F-35A Lightning II welcome ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, to officially commemorate the beginning of depot maintenance at Hill AFB. The F-35A Joint Strike Fighter is a multi-variant, multi-role 5th Generation Fighter, and will undergo organic depot modification work at Hill AFB. This work will be accomplished under a publicprivate partnership with Lockheed Martin aerospace company and the Ogden Air Logistics Complex. The ceremony will include local community and elected officials along with Lockheed Martin executives who have supported the Ogden Air Logistics Complex efforts in acquiring this workload for depot maintenance. This ceremony marks the beginning of depot maintenance of the F-35 at Hill and is not a basing decision. The primary speakers will be Lorraine Martin, Lockheed Martin's Executive Vice President and General Manager of the F-35 Lightning II Program; Rear Adm. Randolph Mahr, DoD F-35 Deputy Program Director; Lt. Gen. Bruce Litchfield, Air Force Sustainment Center commander and Sen.Orrin Hatch. Other attendees will include Sen. Mike Lee, Reps. Rob Bishop and Chris Stewart, Utah Lt. Gov. Greg Bell and members of the Utah State House and Senate. See F-35 I page 3 Wingman Award to be presented to Northern Utah civic leaders BY RICHARD W. ESSARY 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs T wo of Top of Utah's community members are being recognized for their substantial support to Team Hill. Bob Ekstrom and Kevin Ireland of Ogden will be presented with Hill's prestigious Wingman Award this month, an honor presented annually to members of the community whose actions over the years have gone above and beyond in support of the installation. "It's a tremendous privilege to work with these community Wingmen who have given countless hours in direct support of Hill Air Force Base," said Col. Kathryn Kolbe, 75th Air Base Wing commander. "These awards are well deserved and just a small token of our ap- preciation for their strong commitment to Team Hill and our nation's Airmen." Having served on the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee (TOUMAC) for 16 years, seven of those years as chairman; Ekstrom has tirelessly worked to foster and enhance the working relationship between the TOUMAC and Hill AFB. "Bob has raised funds in support of numerous quality of life programs for Hill's Airmen, including everything from picnics to enhancing programs for Hill's junior Airmen," Kolbe said. "He currently serves as an active member of the Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) Community Liaison Program (CLP), a civic outreach initiative designed to enhance public awareness of, trust in, and support for AFMC and the U.S. Air Force. He is a true ambassador for Hill." Ekstrom Ireland This same dedication can be said for Ireland. "Kevin has had a close and personal relationship with Hill, serving and supporting the base in many capacities since the early 1990s," Kolbe said.
