The Defense Department's comptroller issued guidance to all of the services to "consider significant reductions in funding new tuition assistance applicants, effective immediately and for the duration of the current fiscal situation," said Navy Cmdr. Leslie Hull-Ryde, a Pentagon spokeswoman. The Army and Marine Corps canceled their TA programs March 8. BY STAFF SGT. DAVID SALANITRI Air Force Public Affairs Agency W ASHINGTON 4 In the wake of sequestration, the Air Force officially suspended military tuition assistance March 11. Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley announced the Air Force has officially suspended military TA for the remainder of fiscal 2013. The program will continue to be Effective March 11, Airmen are not permitted to submit new requests for TA. Airmen currently enrolled in, or approved for future courses, are not affected and are allowed to complete those courses. "The Air Force has reached a turning point after a decade of war and substantial growth in its operations and resources," Donley said, adding that the Air Force has had to make difficult choices to preserve readiness, to include: deep cuts to flying hour programs, cancellation of Air Force training and education programs and civilian furloughs. "This is an additional step the Air Force unfortunately had to take to operate within mandated budget limitations." "We know how education strengthens our force," he said. However, Team Hill's 2013 Holocaust Observance Committee has planned other events during the week of April 7-14 to facilitate discussion on this important commemoration. Details will be forthcoming. he Air Force Sustainment Center selected two of its best from Hill Air Force Base when it presented awards to Tech. Sgt. Adrianne Murphy and Master Sgt. Chi Swanson. The ceremony took place via video conference as the technical sergeant received her award from Maj. Gen. H. Brent Baker Sr., Ogden Air Logistics Complex commander, in Building 1102, on March 11. Swanson was not in attendance. Murphy's career field is health service management and her nomination included several accomplishments in that regards. She serves as NCOIC Resource Management Office with the 75th Medical Support Squadron. She directed three Uniform Business Office audits, scrutinizing 158 items and corrected 14 errors, contributing to the Health Services Inspection "Outstanding" which the medical group received. Murphy managed the Government Travel Card program eliminating 22 delinquent accounts, converting 114 Controlled Spend Accounts, a month early. She excelled in the air base wing Operational Readiness Exercise executing flawless combat and weapon skills. Murphy explained that part of this was at the Base Operational Readiness Training Area where participants had to take apart an M-16 and put it back together again and put on their chem gear at appropriate times.
