Noted speaker and neuropsychologist Dr. Schwebach will talk about the need for resiliency for both parents and children. He will address the stress of school transitions, bullying, deployments and dealing with special needs. Participants will learn specific strategies on how to develop solutions for handling these issues, build resiliency in their families, reconnect with children and be able to recognize warning signs and symptoms of mental health problems. Additionally, the commander directly supports Air and Space Expeditionary Forces operations and has base support responsibility for the operation of the 1,500-square-mile Utah Test and Training Range. Litchfield, Commander BY RICH ESSARY 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs A new commander will take charge of the 75th Air Base Wing (ABW) during a formal change of command ceremony at Hill Air Force Base at 9 a.m. Jan. 11. Col. Kathryn L. Kolbe will assume command of the 75th ABW from Col. Sarah E. Zabel. The 75 ABW commander is directly HOMECOMING On Sunday, Jan. 6 and Feb. 1, Outdoor Recreation is offering the opportunity to learn how to ice fish with an instructor. The trip includes fishing with the latest of shelters as provided by ODR, transportation, lunch and hot drinks. The fee is $20. Call 801-7779666 to registor or for more information. The Landing to remodel kitchen, Runway Ruby's to move Marketing Department 0 n Jan. 3 'The Landing' (formerly Club Hill), located in Building 450, will begin a kitchen remodeling project that is expected to last 60 days. When complete, the changes will allow the restaurant and catering departments to provide improved customer service. During the remodeling period lunch service will be suspended along with the Saturday two for one special, Wacky Wednesday and TGIF Friday member socials, and the monthly membership appreciation dinner. The enlisted and officers lounges will remain open, but food options will be limited to bar snacks. The enlisted lounge will close from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Single Airman Rock and Bowl competition The Bowling Center is holding an event for single Airmen in which they compete collectively for their units. On evenings 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., Jan. 11 and 25, Feb. 8 and 22, and March 8 scores will be accumulated. This event is free for all Team Hill single Airmen. For non-single Airmen the cost is $10 per person. Each night of bowling will feature black lights, special effects lighting, fog and rockin' music. In the challenge between Hill AFB single Airmen competing for the highest total pin fall (by squadron) during the event, the squadron with the most cumulative total pin fall will be awarded a certificate for a "free" wingman bowling event. Squadrons can be represented by unlimited single Airmen, competing for the traveling trophy engraved with their office symbol. At the end of the program on March 8, the squadron with the most cumulative total pin fall will be awarded a certificate for a "free" wingman bowling event. Returning Home Care If you have been deployed for a minimum of 30 calendar days you are eligible for Returning Home Care, 16 hours of free child care. If you qualify you need a copy of your orders, a completed Re-turning Home Care statement (available at the office or through email) and FCC will schedule the care with a family child care provider. The Air Force announced in a Nov. 30 news release that Zabel will assume duties as the Special Assistant to the AFSC commander. This assignment will also be at Hill AFB, which wasn't stated in the announcement. Fewer samples of copper in water Nevertheless, Team Hill still urged to follow precautions BY MARY Lou GORNY Hilltop Times editor A memorandum was issued by Col. Sarah Zabel, 75th Air Base Wing commander, dated Dec. 21, that reported only two samples of water showed copper levels similar to those initially collected in July and reported in September. These findings in December, she cautions, do not mean the status has changed because the initial findings came as a result of pipe corrosion. VFW Post 8868, Minuteman Post, Commander Darin Campbell said, "It's a different military now than it was then (Korea and Vietnam War), but it's a chance to rub shoulders with that brotherhood." A reservist who works as a civilian on base, Campbell explained the post holds informal meetings, and works for members and families welfare.
