(Exception: Small coolers used for baby food/beverages or for medical use will be allowed) • Bicycles, scooters, skateboards, roller blades, roller skates and roller shoes • Scanners of any kind • Pets will not be allowed unless they are service animals assisting those with disabilities • Large lawn chairs are not allowed. The Thunderbirds have more than one aircraft per pilot with back-ups to stand in at aerial performances as needed. vent organizers are putting the finishing touches on this year's Hill AFB open house and air show featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. The May 26 and 27 event is free to the public and the gates will open at 8 a.m. Support from the Top of Utah Military Affairs Committee is also bringing in several world-class aerial performers including Tim Weber, Dan Buchanan, the Red Eagles, the Red Bull Team, Erickson Air, and Smoke and Thunder to name a few. The last time Hill AFB hosted an open house and air show was in 2009 and the event drew more than 300,000 people to the base over two days. Organizers hope to draw an even larger crowd this year, which has been dubbed with the theme "Warriors Over the Wasatch - A Legacy of Valor," in honor of the event's being See SHOW I page 4 TORCH BEARER National Police Week events at Hill AFB Thursday, May 17 - Shooting Competi- Jay Hess, who was held for more than 5 years as a POW during the Vietnam War, will speak May 24 at The Landing at 4 p.m. Anyone with access to the base who is interested in hearing him speak is welcome to attend. Heritage Luau May 17 at Centennial Park With the theme of "Striving for Excellence in Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion," events will be held including a Heritage Luau on May 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The luau will include pork barbecue sticks, fried rice, pancit noodles, lumpia and a drink. Tickets are $11 the day of the event. Brad Lundell, T-38 and F-5 Landing Gear engineer, took top honors by incorporating wings, a state of Utah shape and the star to represent the Hill AFB location. Also included are symbols of the Department of Defense, the Air Force and F-16s. "The year before I saw the competition in an email; I thought it sounded fun," said Lundell. The engineer started to come up with a design concept, and then got tied up with some other things and missed the deadline.
