"Our team came through on short notice, and they did a very good job," said Lt. Col. Karen Morris, the 130th EIS commander. "The project was important to Hill Air Force Base to support the F-22 program. We completed the work by the target date and under budget, for less than what it would have cost for a contractor." The 130th EIS team chief, Tech. Sgt. Kyle Wood, said that even though the project was intense due to the importance of placing the lines by the deadline, they had a lot of support from Hill AFB in corn- BY SENIOR AIRMAN LILLIAN HARNDEN 151st Air Refuleing Wing Public Affairs S ALT LAKE CITY - In order to meet a tight deadline for the 309th Software Maintenance Group's new F-22 Raptor workload, Hill Air Force Base requested the Utah Air National Guard's assistance in installing a cable infrastructure Sept. 6-30. Eight cable technicians from the 130th Engineering Installation Squadron augmented Hill AFB's current workforce to install a backbone fiber and workstation cable lines at the 309th SMXG's building. Now that the 130th EIS accomplished their mission by the deadline, software engineers coming to The pool will remain open during the nine month renovation period and can be accessed through the pool doors on the side. There will be access to the locker rooms. "All of the current programs and services available in the Hess will remain upon re-opening," said Braner of the renovation plans. Youth program activities have been relocated temporarily during the renovation and will be able to reuse the center once renovations are complete. Plans include the replacement of windows and the fire detection system and a different space will be created for the massage therapists. A fully renovated fitness assessment cell area is also planned. "For the most part it's just going to be a facelift of a lot of things but the capability increase is happening in the gymnasium area," said Braner. "The renovated Hess Center could potentially provide us opportunities for programs," he added. "During nonpeak hours we could bring in certain groups of individuals such as active duty in the fitness improvement program. However, all that has yet to be determined." HESS From page 1 capabilities for what we can provide to our community," said Roger Braner, 75th Force Support Sustainment Flight Chief. The popular family fitness area will be temporarily relocated to the Warrior Fitness Center in the current X-bike area. The X-bike program will relocate to the bubble during the renovations. Although this area will be slightly smaller than what is currently provided in the Hess, there will be a selection of cardiovascular and strength equipment, and a portioned child's area will be more suited for passive play. The family fitness area transition will begin before the renovations and will start Nov. 16. The area will reopen in the Warrior Center Nov. 18, but it is possible it could reopen even earlier. Braner recommends checking with the front desk at the Warrior Center front desk if interested, 801-777-2761. The X-bikes classes will move to the bubble on Nov. 16. 0 ODUat Wood estimates that it has been about 10 years since the 130th EIS had the opportunity to work for Hill AFB. Normally, their project taskings are scattered around the country. Wood was appreciative of his chance to work locally. "Hill Air Force Base gave us the opportunity to basically work in our backyard, so we got to go home and be with our families at the end of the day," said Wood. Wood also acknowledged another benefit of working locally. "During September's drill weekend, we had additional traditionals from our shop drive up to help us splice and add connectors to the fibers so we could complete the job quicker." "Our team came through on short notice, and they did a very good job," LT. COL KAREN MORRIS, 130th Engineering Installation Squadron commander pleting it. "The 309th and Hill Air Force Base bent over backwards to ensure our project kept flowing so we could get everything done that we needed to get done," said Wood. "Basically, they removed all the road blocks we'd run into that, on any normal job, would be a problem." Check out the Classifieds "." .1"11/41f.. ".4.
