Also on 6th Street from the Clearfield Gate to Southgate Drive. Some delays may be encountered and temporary access to facilities will be limited. However the streets will remain open for all base services and activities. Weekend project will nix communication This weekend, a communication outage will begin at 7 a.m. each day and lasti for approximately 10 hours and will affect the following buildings: Buildings 244,240, 250 and 252 The outage could grow to include other buildings. The project will establish and re-establish site communication for a new building. The majority of the cable will be pulled prior to this time. Main operation will splice new communication lines. 75th SFS to conduct safety checkpoints The 75th Security Forces Squadron will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints on Saturday, June 20. The locations will be the parking lot adjacent to Southgate Avenue next to the Softball fields and the outbound lane of the Roy Gate. The traffic checkpoints will focus on vehicle safety, license and seat belt awareness, insurance and registration checks, DUI and other safety issues. The checkpoints will begin at 9 p.m. and will conclude at 3 am Biden praises top environmental award winners 75th CEG included in distinction given to defense organizations BY DONNA MILES American Forces Press Service W ASHINGTON — Vice President Joe Biden praised winners of the 2009 Secretary of Defense Environmental Awards for leading the way in environmental stewardship as they lead the way in the nation's defense. Biden joined Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III in the Pentagon auditorium on June 3 to recognize installations and teams he said are excelling in an area most people in the general public would never expect. "This is an outfit that does.it all," Biden said. "When I look at the accomplishments of the teams we honor today, I am genuinely impressed by how our nation's armed forces, while fighting two wars overseas and many other contingencies across the globe, can still lead the fight for effective environmental stewardship." Biden noted that the Defense Department, as the United States' largest employer, land owner and energy consumer, is making "a gigantic impact" in committing to environmental protection. This year's winners have stood above the rest in protecting wetlands, promoting recycling programs and preserving archeological sites through "innovation, improvising as well as simple, plain hard See BIDEN I page 6 Munitions inventory to interrupt service The 649th Munitions Squadron will be conducting a 100 percent inventory of the test stockpile from July 6 to July 31. The 75th Aerospace Medicine Squadron's Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight will publish the report for Hill AFB by July 1. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires all drinking water system managers write a report like this each year.
