Power poles will be installed, and lines will be rerouted. The following buildings will be affected — 708, 710,717, 720,723,727,732,741,743, 744,745, 747, 749, 751, 752,753,776,789, 798 and 10779. Popeyes official opening June 19 Don Sydlik, Hill's general manager for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, expects construction to be complete on the new Popeyes building on May 31. A ribbon cutting will be held June 19 when Popeyes will officially open its doors. "AAFES is excited that the grand opening's here and the building will be turned over," said Sydlik. Wall dedication on Memorial Day A Hill AFB Memorial Day observance and street renaming ceremony will be held at Memorial Park near the Airman Family Readiness Center from 11:30 a.m. until noon. Presiding will be Maj. Gen. Kathleen Close and Col. Linda Medler. Military service dress is appropriate, and civilians are asked to wear respectful attire. F Avenue, 6th Street intersection to close The 75th Civil Engineer Squad will close F Avenue and 6th Street to run steam line across F Avenue. The road closure will be from 8 am., May 13, until 4 p.m., May 15. Sixth Street project closes half of street The 75th Civil Engineer Squadron's pavement project began on April 24, affecting the east half of Southgate • Drive (Wardfeigh Road to 4th Street) and the loading zones in front of Building 225. Downloadable books on PC, PDA The Air Force library program centrally purchased downloadable audio books, an online service providing digital media to all Air Force personnel and their families. Subjects include languages, business and nonfiction titles, as well as many classics. Customers need to go to the library to register and sign up for an Overdrive account number. Once customers have the login number, they may use the service at home or in the library computer labs (not authorized for use on government systems). A "Quick Start Guide" on the Overdrive Web site provides step-by-step instructions. The titles can be listened to from a PC, or transferred to an MP3 player, Pocket PC, PDA, or Smartphone. Many can also be bumed to a CD. Check-out times are 10 days, and five titles can be checked out at one time. After the title "expires," it cannot be opened unless it is checked out again. The 21-member group, part of the 75th Civil Engineer Group Environmental-Division, includes biologists, an archaeologist, several engineers and other managers who oversee Hill AFB's natural, cultural and environmental compliance programs. A military career is not the typical 8-to-5, home-every-weekend type of job. An airman is expected to be away from home a few months out of the year to most likely complete a potentially lifethreatening mission. Then, every three or so years, that airman must relocate his or her family to a new place to establish roots in a new community.
