Show HILLTOP TIMES TIMES April 24, 2008 Golden Spike festival discount for concert O rganizers of the first annual Golden Spike Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival want to show their support for members of the military and government employees by offering them half-price tickets. Event organizers have delivered tickets to the Information, Tickets and Travel office for a Curly Musgrave and Belinda Gail concert to be held on May 8. Hill employees, dependants and members of the military may get the $10 tickets for $5. With identification, the half-price tickets also are available at the gate. "These entertainers sing about true American values," said Kooter Knudson, a Hill Air Force Base computer technician who organized the offer. "I believe it is very appropriate to honor those who support our freedom at such an event." The concert, held at the Ogden Amphitheater, will begin with a 6 p.m. presentation by an Air Force color guard as well as a tribute to the men and women who serve their country, Knudson said. The conceit is just one part of the threeday festival and the only part that will not be held at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center. A complete festival schedule is available at ogdencowboypoetry.com, or by calling 395-3227. Belinda Gail is touted as America's Western Sweetheart. She and partner Curly Musgrave were named by the Western Music Association as duo of the year in 2006. To hear a sampling of their music, visit www.ogden.ee/curlyandbeUnda. Master Sgt KENNETH POTTS, 75TH SFS ilitary Police from the U.S. Army along with local civilian police trained with members from the 75th Security Forces Squadron Hill Air Force Base unit the weekend of April 11. The training is run in part by Master Sgt. Kenneth Potts, 75th SFS NCOIC of training. The Army military police and local police are up to speed with law enforcement, but could use a hand when learning the Air Force style of the job. "The MPs and other cops know the basics of law enforcement," said Potts. "We teach them the Air Force ways of the line of work. The end plan is to eventually work together with them." The help outside the Air Force can come in handy* at times when the situation calls for extra assistance for the 75th SFS. "(Training other branches to work with us) helps out greatly when 30 to 50 percent of our task force is deployed," said Potts. "We are low on manning a good part of the time. It's also a really good deal if they help us during noncritical times that require a lot of manning like the air shows. Furthermore, it's beneficial when the force protection conditions are changing and manning can alter. "It's not a new concept by any means," Potts said. "It rolls into a winning situation for everyone where the base benefits from the assistance and some civilian experience in the mix, and the help benefits from some Air Force experience."
