perhaps to discover that we have just as difficult peaks under the I 1 stars and stripes as can cart be found in any part of or the old world sometime Some timea fate steps in and makes what might be termed an involuntary convert to ameri amert can mountain climbing A case in point is that of charles E hughes governor of new york who has recently been appointed to the united states supreme rne court mountain climbing is the pet bobby hobby of governor hughes and tor for years ears he spent every summer in switzerland scaling the peaks then came big election to the gubernatorial post tion stand point carries non athletic mountain climbers up pike s peak in colorado and in the same state the moffat road conveys tourists to the crest of the great divide in standard coaches drawn by locomotives of the regulation type there are mountain climbing railroads in california and similar highways have been proposed tor for the peaks of the pacific northwest wl areas congress has been
