| Show eureka volunteer fire department the eureka eurela volunteer fire depart ment held a spec al meeting last 1 in n day night at the city hall to which he city officials and the press were invited at the meeting which was attended by over thirty five firemen a new office w m as created in the de apartment part ment meAt namely that of electrician H 0 doncarlos of the eureka electric company was admitted as a bember and chosen to fill the position after the regular business of the meeting was concluded D B cronin in a short speech presented to the pare and keeping of chief barrett a beautiful silver speaking trumpet chis trumpet is to be used by the fire department chief at all parades esanu ani on all other oc cassiol 8 where the do apartment part 11 ment will i t tend fatia a rustling co committee was selee composed of D B cronin david davi mills and edw lewis to get funds for the purpose of getting the boys new uniforms and as more money than waa was needed for this purpose was col lecter the them presentation of the trumpet was the result the names of all for mer chiefs and the present one are t engraved upon it and read as follows dan martin M F P Sarn mon george u hanson F A shontz P W newton gus J henriod and frank barrett 1 after the presentation all adjourned to the elks hall where a social ses 1 sion was held with irwin spriggs in the chair speeches were made by the mayor and the other city officers ceis a present and by the members of the department the surprise of the even ing in was when after a very neat speech david mills assistant chief of the department called upon chief barrett to come forward to the platform and in a few appropriate words presented him with a beautiful gold signet ring as a token of the esteem and respect in which the men of the department hold him mr barrett Barret tm w as genuinely i surprised sed and affected and it was some time before be he e could recover himself to thank his comrades which he did in an appropriate manner A dutch appropriate lunch espien splendidly idly served and music songs recitations and more speeches brought an exceedingly enjoyable a evening to a close |
