Show I 1 council meeting at the sess on held on friday id ay night considerable 1 business was transacted there there was a full attendance at the meeting of the city council held last friday evening and considerable bus inosa was transacted the question of making a change in the ordinance f ro regulating gu lating the licenses charged meat dealers and produce peddlers came up for for discussion but the committee was not nt ready to make a report council man i zabriskie thought that instead of reducing the peddlers license it would be better to take the license off e entirely councilman freckleton the chairman of that committee ex pressed himself as being in favor of a reduction only the committee will meet with the city attorney and pre pare a new ordinance to be submitted at the next meeting of the council the water committee reported that the s books showed only a few of the patrons of the system to be in arrears for water councilman nelson reported thata that a new street light had been put in near the residence of william dennis in the southeastern part of town councilman freckleton stated that in view of the fact that the city s 8 finances were at low ebb he thought I 1 I 1 that one of the night watchmen should be dispensed with he then made a motion that hank bebeline Se beline be laid off councilman bowen looked at the matter in an entirely different light he said that while the tre treas as ury of the cit did not contain any great amount of money in hia his opinion it would be a grave mistake to cut down don the police force and leave but one tie man on the night shift mr bow en said that one man could not in make ake any attempt at patrolling the business and residence districts when it came to a vote mr freckleton s motion lowas wa defeated ade three republican 0 0 retainer retain Mr seb 1 eline upon the police force j councilman freckleton brought up the ferrando case and stated that in his opinion the city should comptom ise the case and thus save court costs he said that according to the corn com muni cation presented to the council air ferrando would be willing to set tie the matter if the city would pay him for the ground and allow him about 50 00 to cover a portion of the expense which he has been put to in fighting the case councilman bow en did not agree with mr freckleton and said that if mr ferrando could claim this street and the city ased the street from him then other property owners would be trying to c claim laim and fence in streets and there aou would ld be no end of trouble A motion to adjourn for a few mm min utes in order to give the committee a chance to report upon the bills against the city carried and put a stop to further discussion of the ferrando case the bills against the city including the light and water bills for the past month were allowed and the war rants were ordered drawn for their payment manager mccune of the bullion beck beek mercantile co appeared before the council and asked for a reduction in the price which his firm is paying for water the firm has furnished rooms with bath lavatories etc above the store and naturally uses a great deal of water ater NN and mr mccune ex that the expense formaker for water mater alone took about about one third the reve nue derived from the rooms the council took no action upon the mat ter but it will most likely be brought up at some future meeting the mayor reported that the fire department needed some bind kind of a closet loset in which uniforms could be stored A motion to the effect that the department submit a written peti tion stating what is needed was car ned ried and this motion also carried a clause that all reports of committees and officers ceis be presented in writing in order that they maa ma be filed forlefer for refer ence purposes the next meeting of the council will be held march ath Loci location tion notices at this office the Th stock estock s bil sil il s ant au 1 q foi folly are published pulli put shed uj ou the thud page of tim this is lie tie |
