Maw that seems to have infected scores of organizations throughout the State, is by no means a popular reaction to the man’s remarkable equally remarkable talents. personality, and his 5 Certainly it cannot be attributed to a wide- spread recognition of His Excellency’s lack of capacity for good faith. Nor is it a product of his purring vocal cords. It is wholly artificial. It is well organized. It is what old timers call “Boring From Within”. The Boring-From- Within technique is organized in the State Capitol by men and women who are paid to serve the State of Utah. The Governor has built up a well oiled political machine. Individuals in that machine are assigned the task of creating a cell of Maw sentiment in a given organization. Their political standing—their po- litical future—depends on their ability to deliver. Those Maw agents begin to work on their friends in the organizations selected. They act as “boosters” and “‘come-ons” to sell their product to their friends and acquaintances in the organizations. Even though they appear to be disinterested, Maw agents always have an axe to grind. That axe is usually a good, easy State job, and a political career. They cite His Excellency’s great (vocal) contributions to the cause of the particular organization that is to be taken into camp. Maw’s field agents—we can name several of the type referred to—have the ear of His Excellency day and night, particularly since the cam- paign started. The Governor is highly responsive to their suggestions.
