In 1936 she married William J. Chard and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Shanna was a secretary to the Director of Communications, HQ North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). After living in Colorado for 24 years, she moved to Ogden, Utah. Her years on Malan Avenue were treasured with fond memories of her neighbors and beautiful gardens dotted with iris and tulips. While living in Ogden she volunteered many hours in The First Presbyterian Church offices. Since 1988 Shanna resided in Salt Lake City. She traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, and the Orient. She cherished spending her winters in La Quinta, California and had a great love for the desert and her lemon trees.
