It was a “hands on” demonstration, with participants trying it themselves. Inside the library, participants could view the Square Foot Gardening video in the Conference Room. For more information, visit the website at: www.squarefootgardening.com Community Picnic From 1:00 p.m. unti 3:00 p.m., a community picnic was held in the library courtyard, with attendance estimated at about one hundred-fifty. The library provided hotdogs, hamburgers, potato chips, and ice-cold lemonade. Members of the community provided a variety of foods, including: 3-bean salad, humus with pita bread, home-grown watermelon, and organically cultivated carrots. Waiting patiently in line for hotdogs and hamburgers, a child was heard to ask her parent: “Daddy, what’s an exhibition?” “That’s what we were looking at, inside.” “Oh,” she said, looking around in wonder at the people coming and going, the barbecue smoke drifting on the breeze, and the picnic on the lawn. Judging from her response, it seems safe to say that a good time was had by all. Accident in Ogden Canyon Shuts Down Road By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News On Monday, August 18, at about 3:00 p.m., an eastbound driver attempted to pass another vehicle in Ogden Canyon above the Oaks restaurant in an area striped with double yellow lines. The vehicle hit, head on, a Handi-trans bus. The bus, which was occupied only by the driver, veered off the road, knocking down a power pole. The power lines came to rest on top of the suspect’s vehicle. Utah Power was contacted to shut power off to the area before the occupant could be safely extricated from his vehicle. There were no additional passengers in the car. The accident, which shut down both lanes of traffic in the canyon for about two hours, is being investigated as possibly alcohol related. According to Weber County Sheriff Sergeant Hadley, the driver of the Handi-trans bus was not seriously injured. The suspect was treated at the scene, and transported to Ogden Regional Hospital. A report shows the suspect as an Ogden resident.
