Fourth graders celebrated Read Across America with Mrs. Allen dressed up in her Dr. Seuss “Hunches and Bunches” costume, visiting various grades to read the story Hunches and Bunches to the children. Every year, Dr. Seuss’ birthday is celebrated across America, including right here in Ogden Valley at the Ogden Valley Library. Students enjoyed assemblies at the library with storytellers Bill Higley, Virginia Rasmussen, and Nanci Byers, who entertained the students with their Dr. Seuss tales. Nanci Byers coordinated the program for the Ogden Valley Library. After their visit to the library, each class received a handout of interesting and fun things to do for Dr. Seuss day. Read Across America—a project of the National Education Association (NEA) For the past six years, the NEA has celebrated Read Across America day on March 3. This year, millions of Americans celebrated the joy of reading on Dr. Seuss’s 99th birthday. On March 3, the National Education Association calls for every child to be reading in the company of a caring adult. Many have hosted birthday parties, cooked green eggs and ham for Cat in the Hat appearances, supported reading contests, and most importantly, taken time to read to local schoolchildren. Ideas, tools, and inspiration abound. In Dr. Seuss style, the NEA reminds us: You’re never too old, Too wacky, too wild To pick up a book And read with a child. You’re never too cold, Too wet, or too hot To pick up a book And share what you’ve got.
