Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume IV, Issue X Page 13 September 1, 2001 EconoMe Begins! Friday, August 31, at 2:30 p.m. in the Valley Elementary School gymnasium interested parents, community members, and sixth graders will begin an experience “for a lifetime. Notice it says “for a lifetime” and not “of a lifetime!” Valley sixth graders will see how academic, social, financial, physical, and emotional goals become the groundwork for a lifetime of success. They will become immersed in EconoMe! EconoMe is a project wherein students will create a currency, have a school job, earn and spend their EconoMe bucks as they learn about financial planning, and so much more. Parents and community members are encouraged to participate with the students. The 2:30 p.m. program will feature Miss Northern Counties Natalie Johnson. Natalie, third runner up for the Miss Utah 2001 pageant, will gear us up for the project with her jazz rendition of “Great Balls of Fire.” She will then speak about goals and what goal-setting has done for her. An accounting major at Brigham Young University, Natalie is especially interested in the EconoMe project, and how it impacts finances through budgeting. She loves math and problem-solving, and she is as beautiful on the inside as she is outwardly. Her love of service and her desire to help our kids set high goals and achieve them brings her to Valley Elementary to share her talents and her story. We hope you’ll feel welcome to join us in this outstanding project kick-off. We Salute . . . Marv & Madeline Evans It’s a Secret Most people around here don’t know about it, but there is a little piece of Heaven right here in Ogden Valley. Some people are aware of it but don’t realize the significance of it. Some people are just too busy. Pull into the driveway and leave your troubles in the car. You walk around back and the first thing you see is a maze of fences, sheds, and horses. It takes more than one visit to really “feel” it. Don’t expect to find it on the first or even second visit. You need to stop and give the horses a scratch on the ear and a pat on the nose. Take a couple of buckets, it’s easier that way, down to the stream and fill each of the water troughs. There are at least a dozen trips worth. Check on the chickens and the rabbits. They need water and food, too. The sheep won’t let you forget them; they prefer to be fed first. You need to help stack a couple of loads of hay in the heat of the day and you might get a drink of the special nectar they serve there. If you are still having a hard time finding Heaven, you need to take a pair of scissors and some rope and sheer the sheep before the summer heat exhausts them. Brush away the winter hair and tangled manes of the horses. Then, when you are ahead of the summer chores, you can relax with an evening trail ride and snack on wild blueberries. Madeline and Marvin Evans are the caretakers of this little Heaven. They don’t have much time to stand around and visit. But put on your gloves and help with the chores and you can “jaw” all you want. They can always teach you 801-745-4000 2555 WOLF CREEK DR.
