Maybe it’s the accumulation of traumas in my life that makes the mail overwhelming. Or maybe picking up the mail is just overwhelming all together—kind of like cooking meals—we have to do it even when we don’t want to. HH Today as I drove past the post office thinking that I should stop and get our mail, an overwhelming feeling came over me. How could mail be overwhelming I wondered? You just keep what you want and throw away the rest . . . right? But it doesn’t really seem all that easy to me. It must be all the bills we receive. We have to pay them and that takes money, and money is hard to come by these days. Or maybe it’s the junk mail. I receive offers for credit cards continually. Maybe they make me nervous because I’'m afraid that one day I’ll have to accept all of them just to pay the bills. Or maybe it’s the waste of paper that I don’t like about collecting the mail. Our junk mail can really add up, enough to fuel our winter fires. We’ve owned many different businesses and still receive mail for each of them. That’s definitely junk mail. They have some pretty interesting conversations, and they are always laughing. It cheers me up just to listen to their laughs—they’re the greatest. But back to my feeling of overwhelmment (I know it’s not a word but it should be). Is it that mail is just one more thing to contend with? (Can you contend with mail?) Or is it the time it takes to do something with every piece of mail? Maybe it’s just that I don’t get enough of what I like when it does come—money, gifts and letters! Remember the days when you received letters in the mail. I love to get a letter, but now everyone just emails you a message. I can remember when Melba Hogge worked at the post office. It was during my single mom crying days. She used to ask, “Are you crying because _.E;:: By Janet Hoffmann Two Liberty Youth Chosen to Represent Utah soup. - | Across the street from the Post Office 258 25th street, Ogden #%94-1595 g . |
