Show Volume III, Issue VIII THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Page 5 February 15, 2001 The OSBA Proudly Presents “How the Gimquat Found Her Song” The Ogden Symphony Ballet Association (OSBA) proudly presents the Utah Symphony Orchestra, led by Associate Conductor Scott O’Neil, and Platypus Theatre in a production of “How the Gimquat Found Her Song” on Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Val A. Browning Center on the Weber State University campus. “Gimquat” is a musical journey about an awkward fuzzy brown bird that has no song to sing. She is so sad and ashamed that she hides herself in a hollow tree until the day she meets a magician who opens a whole new world to her as they travel through time searching for a song which will suit her. Starting in a monastery, stopping in Leipzig where the audience becomes Bach’s choir, with visits to Vienna, Berlin, New Orleans, and ending with a lively rap, they listen to music and visit the people of ages gone by. This magical voyage through the history of Western music makes audiences of all ages laugh and cry, and leaves everyone smiling with its unexpected ending. Combining live actors, masks and puppets, Platypus Theatre has worked with more than 40 orchestras educating young audiences about classical music in an intelligent and entertaining way. Scott O’Neil joined the Utah Symphony staff as Assistant Conductor in August 2000. He has been a guest conductor for the Houston Symphony, Florida Philharmonic and the LIBRARY cont. from page 4 Representative Joseph Murray: 1030 Peach Drive, Ogden, Utah 84404 (801) 393-7062 Senator Dave Gladwell: 3159 N. 1075 E. Unfortunately, it is a little watered down regarding libraries, yet strong for public schools. No state funds will be appropriated to any public school that allows any pornography on their Internet sites. For our public libraries, the decision is still left up to the Library Board to set the policy, and to tell the state how they are going to restrict minors from obscene sites. Write to our representatives and let them know we support legislation that would make any pornography in public buildings inaccessible! Libraries should be as safe as the public schools, or lose funding as well.
